Bullet Profiles for BB 357
Bullet Profiles for BB 357
I picked up some coated 158gr RNFP from Kimberlin Creek but was wondering what other profiles will feed well for a BB 357? SWC? Button Nose WC? Truncated Cone? LRN?

Re: Bullet Profiles for BB 357
My Henry BBS will feed just about anything I put in it. I even tried some 148 gr. HBWC loaded out about 1/8". The biggest problem with those rounds is getting the loading tube back in. The tube stops and you have to fiddle with it a bit. Same thing with feeding. Usually one in ten will hang up a little and you have to sort of double pump the lever. Everything else I've tried works just fine. I also run a lot of 38 Spl. thru it since I have a lot more 38 Spl. brass and very little 357 Mag.

Re: Bullet Profiles for BB 357
Thanks for the feedback. I've seen conflicting info online on some profiles not feeding well, but maybe much of that is OAL related. I ordered some samples of different profiles so I can see what my rifle likes. I will load these in 357 cases. I figure that any that don't feed well will give me an excuse to get a case hardened 357 revolver to pair with my BB.

Re: Bullet Profiles for BB 357
bullet weights from 110 to 180 g ... jacketed and cast .... hollow point, solids, wadcutters and others .... bottom line, ours has loaded and fired every type of bullet we've fed it .... Henry is reported to have designed it for 158's and that's what we use .... my preference is 158 JHP's
Re: Bullet Profiles for BB 357
I shoot the 158 grain bullet from Roze Dist when they have them. Other than that I like the Missouri Cast 180gr pugnose. Those 180gr with some 2400 under them give a stout spanking to what ever they hit. For me I wouldnt go out and order a 158 SWC to shoot in the Henry

My BBS 357 feeds almost everything, however for cast bullets the only one I have found that is really accurate is the RCBS 38-158-SWC. It's an Elmer Keith design.

My copy of Lyman indicates the the Hornady 140 grain Flex Tip FTX (with a flexible tip) will have cycling issues unless you trim the case to 1.240, and then use a lighter load (NOT a standard load) because of pressure issues with the shorter case.
