Bombing in downtown Nashville this am

Post by Grunt67 » Fri Dec 25, 2020 3:49 pm

A large RV, parked near the ATT building, exploded, damaged several bldgs, injured some responding police officers.
There were several shots fired before the explosion. Police had responded to that.

Nashville police, FBI, ATF, are on site.

My Sister lives in Nashville and heard it, but was a couple miles from danger. Really weird timing if the intent was to kill en mass. Thankfully it appears that it did minimal human damage.

Certainly, glad she's safe. Many buildings badly damaged, one collapsed. Curfew in place until 4pm Sun. Going to take quite a while to figure it out.
Just another reason I dont go to Nashville.

A lot more to Nashville than the Honky Tonks & music you see on tv. Nashville's crime rate is rather high. Teen crime a problem,
that isn't handled well.
Not knowing, at this point what the motivation or who, was behind the attack, impossible to say why Nashville was chosen for this.
No place is off limits to terrorist, or whoever it may be. Frankly, Nashville doesn't surprise me.
It takes a long time to process a crime scene like a bombing. Evidence blown every where, going to be quite a while.

my youngest sister and her husband were just north of Nashville in Kentucky at their son's home for Christmas .... I tried calling her off and on all day on Christmas and the calls would not go through .... I learned from her today that something connected to the bomb blast cut telephone connections all the way up to their area

If terrorism, this would be a much softer target than any of the higher profile cities. Whoever set this up wasn't an amateur. There had to be some significant planning, tech know how, access to high explosives, and a sacrificial vehicle.

Interesting, we just watched a show on Netflix called Manhunt, Deadly Games. It is about the bombing at the Olympics in Atlanta and the subsequent bombings that took place in the surrounding areas. Taking the “Hollywood” aspect out of the story we found it very interesting to watch. There might be some similarities with the bombing that took place in Nashville. Or not, but it’s interesting anyway.

I mentioned above my sister letting us know by email that their AT&T phone service .... just spoke with her and she says the talk in that area is the explosion may have been directed at AT&T .... there are 2 AT&T buildings on that street .... one is very large the other is smaller and is the one that houses the equipment that controls the service in a very large area .... the camper was parked in front of the that building

I decided to go to BassPro, on the East side of Nashville . Note on the door said "closed temporarily, open "maybe " Sunday. So, I went on into Opry Mills Mall, some stores were closed, some "cash only". Affected bu ATT&T outages. Same for Walmart in Lebanon ( cash only ). Conducting business just depends on whether you're stuck with ATT & T.
As far as I know, and the news media, there have been no substantial leads. FBI i in charge of the investigation, tip line set up, lots of leads coming in, all being checked. A large reward has been set up. one @ $35,000, another @ $250,000. That might shake something loose. Honor among criminals only goes so far.
I'm sure the FBI is already doing this, but, the thing that got Timothy McVeigh caught. was the ID # on the rear axle of the truck he used. Traced it back to the rental agency & then to him. Then he got pulled over for a traffic violation, it went downhill from there.

Closing in...
By Rick Rojas, Nicholas Bogel-Burroughs, Giulia McDonnell Nieto del Rio and Steve Cavendish in the NY Times wrote: Investigators said they were working to determine whether more than one person was involved in the Christmas Day explosion that rattled the city.

The authorities have identified a 63-year-old man who apparently owned an R.V. similar to the one in the bombing and were seeking to question him, according to a federal law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

On Saturday morning, several dozen investigators with the F.B.I. and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives began searching a brick duplex in Antioch, a neighborhood in the Nashville area. An image of the building from May 2019, captured on Google Street View, shows an R.V. in the yard that appears similar to the one that the authorities say is at the center of the explosion.

CT, I got a news feed from local station, reporting this. It didn't give why they were interested, other than the RV connection.
It's a start tho.
