Hmm, I'll try that in a little bit and get back to you. Didn't do that yesterday, just plopped them in.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 11:28 amCan you push them thru with light finger pressure using a pencil? Any more than that and it would help for a bit of honing. Just want it to lightly push thru.
Site seems to be working OK.

Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
That is interesting as usually the Uberti .45 revolvers come sized at .452- .4525 On my Taylors/Uberti 6 shooter I can take a .452 bullet and it will get started with a light snug fit and just pop right thru the cylinder with light thumb pressure. Test bullet was a Hornady 250 gr. XTP bullet that measures .4523 and that's what you want.

Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
My Uberti/Taylor's cylinder seems fine; it's my Pietta that is tight. My Missouri 250 rnfp non-coated measured out at .452. That's as close as I can measure with dial calipers. After Christmas, I'll see about doing some honing. And getting coated bullets with next order. Thanks forty.
Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
Ive got a Ruger 41 mag that has those tight throats and I have shot lead swc through it and never had a leading issue. Go figure

I don't have many rounds thru the Pietta, maybe 100, tops. I'll shoot it some more and check things out. My next loads will be with 7.2gr Universal and same bullet.
Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
Tom do you have any jacketed bullets? If you do will they pass thru those throats?

Al, I do and just tried them per your post. the Speer.45/225gr jacketed measure .451, went right thru.
The Sierra.45/230gr jacketed measure at .4515 and will NOT pass thru. Hmm.

Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
Thats interesting. Id get after that cylinder with some emery paper on a stick for sure. Maybe even load up about 50 rounds of those Sierras and shoot them thru that gun and see if that doesnt help you out.

I think I will load some of those Sierra's up and see how that goes. That would be the easier fix!

Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
Al and forty; a friend gave me a box of Hornady Leverolution ammo for .45 Colt. Jacketed and .452". Think those could help? Thanks.
Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
They might Tom but I believe I would shoot some of those sierras before using them and then remeasure. The jacketed may or may or maynot smooth out those throats. Ive tried it before and had some luck but you may still need to use the stick and emery paper method

Tom...when you shoot those Leverolution loads keep the brass separate because they are about .050 shorter than standard .45 Colt brass.

Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
I ran about 150 rounds thru my new BBS 45 with NO LEADING, shot all my own loads form mid revolver to Ruger loads all were lead pills, 250 lrnfp from MBC and T&B bullets. I tumble lube mine myself with a 50/50 mix of alox & Johnson wood floor wax. Puts a waxy (like a crayon)coat on them . I've shot these thru my Security6 at full power loads with no leading. There's a place on line that sells it mixed www.lsstuff.com I get my alox they call it xlox.
I've put 1000's rounds down range with little to no leading.

Re: .45 Colt vs .357 Magnum energy...........
ol' pole, the only leading I'm getting is in my Pietta 1873 .45 Colt replica. None in my Henry BB steel or my Uberti/Taylors; both .45 Colt. I use the Missouri rnfp, non coated in all. Only the Pietta is leadind up. From what I have learned/read, it is more than likely the throats in the cylinder need to be opened a bit. Work in progress, but, I'll get this taken care of. Thanks for the info.ol'pole wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 2:13 pmI ran about 150 rounds thru my new BBS 45 with NO LEADING, shot all my own loads form mid revolver to Ruger loads all were lead pills, 250 lrnfp from MBC and T&B bullets.
