Tom,

I am limited to 158 XTP’s and 296 as that’s what I have on hand. I’ve been doing a bunch of reading here on this site about the difference of loading for revolvers and rifles in .357. Particularly the fact that lower charges for a rifle don’t work with a revolver due to gas loss between the cylinder and the barrel. Makes sense! See, an old dog can learn new tricks. :D I’ll be using the Hornady 10th using revolver data as I have a couple of .357 Smiths around. But for accuracy work I’ll use my Henry to develope the load and the Smith can just deal with it.

When I can I plan to give 2400 a try.

Why, I spilled my powder trickler full of the H4895 I drove 100 miles round trip to buy. :o :o :(

I got into such a hurry to clean it up I didn’t think to take a picture until it was too late. In the pic below imagine the trickler laying on it’s side towards the scale and powder everywhere.

It reminded my of those ole Crown Royal magazine ads showing a broken bottle of Crown with the caption, “ever seen a grown man cry?”.

I did manage to charge 154 .308 cases with 42 grains. Ran out of powder with 15 empties to go.

Tried out my new Lyman powder trickler today that I picked up upon the advice of a few guys on here. As you can see I used it with 296, a very fine ball powder. As I was using the Lyman the turn handle got somewhat stiff and felt sticky. Well or course the fine ball powder worked it’s way into the areas between the body and the tube. Regardless it worked great and as you can see in the picture it worked with my electronic scale just fine. After I was done I cleaned the little bit of powder that was gumming up the tube and now it turns just fine. I’ll have a better comparison next time I load Varget or 4895 which is what I have most recently loaded using my old RCBS dinosaur. These are an extruded stick powder and won’t gum up the works. Ball powders are just down right messy.

Load up some ladder loads in .357 to give my Big Boy a chance to show it’s stuff! :D

CFE Pistol 5.2 hrs. CCI 500.
Now I get get onto 150 pcs 45/70 brass. Want to do some experimenting with a few of them. Different weight powder charge, see if it improves or goes south. May be a while, weather
not agreeable for me.

That’s a fact. Funny, I have all the internals but not the externals. I have powder, primers and bullets but no brass or dies. Not to worry tho, I won’t have my hands on the 41 for a while as it’s in layaway jail.

I really missed out on an opportunity a month ago or so. A local guy had three boxes of bullets, 2 Hornady and 1 Speer and a bag of 100 Starline new brass for the 41 for sale for $100. I thought about you guys on here with 41’s but figured it was too far to try to do a deal with him. Of course once I decided to jump back into 41 I reached out to him and he had sold all. :(

Got 50 pcs 45/70 brass, de-caped, wet tumbled cleaned. Let 'em finish drying, & ready to lube & size. Maybe tomorrow. These were once fired ( by me ). I've got 100 pcs of new Starline brass that may need trimming, usually do. Then get to work on them. Got something to do on the cold wet winter days.
Plus, I just enjoy doing it.

Hatch- I saw your post tonight and a buddy of mine got out of handloading and gave me his stuff. In the boxes of stuff that he gave me was a full set of Lee .41 Mag dies, shell holder, and powder scoop. You are welcome to have them if you want. I'll never use them and they were given to me and I'd be happy to pass them along to you. You can P.M. me with your address if you want them. Also, for anyone else there were some Lee 38-40 dies in there too that I would pass along.
