Henrys in the Movies

We do not go to movie houses. We do not care for the 'experience' at all.

I went to one movie house (One in a modern movie complex here in this college town.) out here since the summer of 2002, not too long after I moved out west, and it was a horrible experience with the sound so loud it almost made you deaf! Other people and I complained about the loud sound to the management and they BARELY LOWERED THE SOUND. I should have brought my gun ear muffs to the movie house.
You could not DRAG ME to any of those events in this day and age.

Yup. We don't watch movies on the BIG screen either because of the over the top big sound! I wait for the DVD release and watch movies via my Netflix DVD account. Much better. Much, much better. We have an older, but perfect surround sound system (Bose) and a large screen TV. I can turn it down to a comfortable level and read the closed captioning for the soft spoken whispers that our ears can't make out.

There is a small movie in a town near ours that is restored and digital projectors, its' furnishings are first class and roomy. There cost for my wife and I is only about 18 bucks total including popcorn and a drink. The sound is set about right for me, and my wife hasn't complained about the sound either.
The alternative is a theater like you describe, we don't go there.

Those little local movie houses are the best. We have 2 near us, one in the Crowsnest Pass and one in Pincher Creek.

Silverado is one of my all time favorite movies. As you can see by my avatar, there was a Henry used in this movie (engraved). The one posted in the hands of Danny Glover's character was advertised as a Henry but it is not. It has a side loading gate which means it was a Yellow Boy with the fore end removed. Also the barrel and mag tube are separate not one piece. But yes, there was a Henry in this movie!

Selleck is picky about period correct gear and firearms in his westerns. It's all usually spot on. Part of his contract is he keeps all the custom stuff. I read he has an unreal collection. His period saddles were made by Croft Saddlery in SD. Jerry Croft passed away a couple of years ago. Selleck has a Henry in Last Stand at Saber River.

It might have been Last Stand At Saber River? Maybe both?
Might be a good excuse to watch them again?

This thread reminded me.... have any of you used IMFDB.org? I know IMDB (internet movie database) is very popular but I really enjoy IMF (firearms) DB.

For many movies they list the firearms used and show screenshots. For example, I wanted to know which handgun was used in one of my favorite movie shooting scenes (breifcase alley scene in Collateral with Tom Cruise) so I looked it up on IMFDB ..... voila it is an HK USP .45acp

You can also search by type of firearm... for instance you can search all movies with a Henry 1860 and get a listing. Pretty cool site.

For some movies, there is even commentary from the firearm expert that worked on the movie.

I went back to watch the clip again and figured I'd share it with all of you (not Henry related in the least). Around the 1:10 mark or a little later Tom Cruise takes out one bad guy with two shots from 'position three' and another bad guy with a 'failure to stop' type shooting drill. Great shooting by an actor all in under 2 seconds.

Alright I've been watching the Young Riders series in the afternoons when I can.
This evening, watched an episode called "Requiem for a Hero".
Well the guest star Pernell Roberts, wins a Henry rifle in the opening scene. See it through out the show.

I just watched Tom Selleck's Last Stand at Saber River again last night. His engraved Henry figures prominently in many scenes. Also his Colt open top Richards conversion revolver too. Good movie with all gear period accurate.

I agree. Lots of movies pull the front off side loaders and call them Henry's. Why not just use the right rifle???

those rifles are movie props that are there to replicate a Henry .... to me that's the bottom line .... the script called for a Henry, the prop people provide a look alike rifle .... the same is true with swords and a wide range of other items
