Hello from Iowa

Post by jalest » Wed Dec 16, 2020 12:09 pm

Hey all,

I have been the proud owner of a Henry Big Boy .44 Mag for 10 days and it has already resulted in a 9 point buck hanging in my garage from Iowa's second gun season just 3 days ago. I would like to take credit for that but it was my son who harvested that one with a beautiful 20 yard heart shot. (I did teach him to shoot!!!! :D )

This is my first true lever action (not counting my Ithica falling block .22) and it is an absolute joy to shoot.

Looks like I will need to work on my brass polishing skills or just live with a "brushed" look as the days carrying this in the snow with wet gloves were not nice to the finish.

Nice to be here and look forward to applying the wealth of experience here!!

Jake

Hey Jake. What a way to begin! Congrats on the rifle, deer, and a son to be proud of.

Congratulations and welcome from OK! If you want to keep your brass receiver nice, pick up some Renaissance micro-crystalline wax. Museums use it all the time on their wood and metal. It is great stuff.

Welcome neighbor! I sure wish I could've hunted in the snow during first season. There were a couple days I had bugs flying around me while I sat in my tree stand. Iowa weather, just wait 30 minutes, it likely will change.
