Rare sighting, lately, anyway

Browsing thru the gun case at a neighboring Walmart today, saw
a brass Henry. Asked the clerk what caliber it was. She said 45/70. Nice rifle, priced @ $ 793.95.
Henry brass carbine H010B. Made my old mouth water.

good to hear about seeing it in stock .... beautiful rifle but the thought of firing it makes my shoulder hurt ..

Know what you mean, Jim. I have the same rifle in steel. Kicks like a Missouri mule. But I love it. It did make me wish I'd gotten that one instead of the steel. Pretty rifle. There's just something about brass, be it gun or cartridge. It also has the large loop, which I added to mine.
Rifles have been scarce in Wally World in my area lately, especially Henry.

Anyone having trouble with recoil should consider a Past pad that straps to your shoulder usually under the shirt and greatly reduces felt recoil.

Our Walmart just does not carry anything anymore. I've gotten where I don't even look anymore. I have the steel H010 45/70. Yes it is not fun to shoot, definitely not easy on the sholder.

The brass is really nice looking but tarnishes after a little while.

I don't know anything about the 45-70 cartridge. Is it a large game cartridge, a long distance cartidge, a obsolete cartridge? I take it not much of a range plinker but those that shoot it,except for recoil really like it.

45-70 cartridge was developed in 1873 for the Springfield Trapdoor rifles for U.S. military and progressed into a very effective 405-500 gr. long distance round for the times on the Western Plains.
No fear of getting shoulder beat up if you reload for plinking with 13-14 gr. of Unique powder and a 405 gr. cast lead bullet...shoot all day if you want!

Brass will tarnish, steel will rust, if not taken care of. Applies to most anything.
