New Henrys

I’m sure I’m safe assuming that Henry will keep the tube feed in all the new side loaders but I sure hope so. I got tired of chewing up my thumb feeding my Marlin 1894’s. I no longer own any and really like the tube feed in my Henry’s. But I don’t hunt with them nor do I expect to use them in a self defense scenario so the need to top off isn’t important to me but I respect others desire to do so. So, if Henry keeps the tube feed on the new side loaders everybody is happy......

Well, not everybody is happy. I've read a couple posts elsewhere from people who want a 30rnd box magazine and 7.62 caliber.

Once again, the .41 mag is left out in the cold.

that got me to wondering .... I just looked it up and Henry chambers 44 Mag in 25 different rifles .... they only chamber 2 (a Big Boy Classic & Carbine) in 41 Mag .. .. I've owned one chambered for 41 Mag, a S&W double action revolver .... no issues with it, performed well .... I'm sure they have the market research to justify the limited production but I just can't help but be a bit surprised

If the caliber was a poor performer, I could understand why it hasn't been more popular. But Bill, Keith, and Skeeter knew what they were doing back in the early '60's. I know that it was considered overkill (the full load round) by PD's, but the guys were prepared to provide a lighter load for LE. I blame Remington for not taking up the "Police Load", and only marketing the "hot" load for the ammo's poor acceptance. I think Remington simply didn't want it to compete with their .357 and .44 ammo, and this was a way to kill off the .41mag. It's not quite dead however, as there is (barely) enough consumer interest to keep it alive, but you don't see it widely advertised, or used in competition. And of course LE and the Military has gone full-on Semi-auto. The only semi-auto in .41mag that I've ever heard about is the Desert Eagle, but I'd bet that other manufacturers could produce semi's in .41 if they had a mind to - not that much different than a 10mm or .40.

From what he said, it appears that the .41 mag will also be getting a side gate. Unless they drop the caliber entirely.

I know a lot of folks have been begging for a side gate. Personally, I don't care for them, I like the tube I have.
Never owned a side gate, but did borrow a Marlin 30-30 once to deer hunt with, didn't like the way it chewed up my fingers.
especially in the cold. ( did kill a deer with it tho. ).
I'm sure Henry will do well with it, hope they do.

that isn't the way I heard he video .... he said the side gate would be in all steel models .... the only rifles currently chambered for 41 mag are brass models

I have a BBSC in .41 that I bought about 2 years ago, and when I looked at the Henry web site last weekend, they still showed all the BBS, and BBSC's without the gate including the .41. I checked today, and all the traditional BB Steels are gone, and the .41 is not in the gated lineup. So somebody at Henry needs to do some coordinating between what they show on the site and what the reality is. Not that I care. I've got what I wanted, and won't be buying any more guns anyway - Henry or otherwise. I emailed them and asked what gives, and if they've discontinued the .41 Steel. I'll let you know what they reply.

Im happy with my BBS 41 mag and with 18gr of 2400 I wouldnt be scared to take a shot at an elk with it given the range was doable. It will last me till I find dirt. I have enough ammo to do a little shooting with it now and then but right now makin smoke has taken the front seat to all the cartridge guns.

Just got a reply about this. There will not be any new .41 Mag BBS's. Side gate or otherwise. It will only be offered in the Brass receiver with no side gate, and only octagonal barrel for the Classic Rifle and Classic Carbine.

Sold off all my 41 guns, ammo and reloading supplies so it makes no sense for me to jump into 41 again but man it’s tempting to grab one if they will become scarce. Good think the budget won’t allow that right now or I may do something foolish.

I'd be interested in that also. I paid $697 for mine in Aug 2018. But I bought on our tax free holiday, and no NICS fee. Would have been about $75 more a day later.

The only negative to this would be a loss of value to sellers trying to sell their old models with tubes only. No skin off my butt, I like mine so it's not for sale. I had a couple Marlins, and the .357 Cowboy would shave the brass as the cartridges were fed into it. You could see the scratches when you inspect them for reloading. By the time you got to the last round in it took a fair amount of force to drive it in there. Meh.
Tube loading is only troublesome in combat and I have a better rifle for that use. But not much better!

The 41 mag BBS prices were $739 for the rifle and $749 for the carbine. Not sure why the difference but it looks like they have had the rifle on hand longer due to the condition of the price tags. 8.1% sales tax on top of the price of course. You guys made me go back to the shop and look, thank you.
