Personally I think The Searchers was Duke's best. Our son Ethan is named after his character.

I totally agree, though The Shootist and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance are also at the top of my favorites list.RanchRoper wrote:Personally I think The Searchers was Duke's best.

The "Searchers" for sure, but I also liked John Wayne in "Red River," which just happens to be on TV tonight on Turner Classic Movies. They give it four stars.

Red River is great. I will watch tonight. Thanks. There are so many great Wayne westerns it's tough to choose. What a legacy.

its on right now .... Red River with John Wayne was made in 1948 remade with James Arness in 1988 .... both are good but for me, the Duke's version is the best

Get a copy of "COMPANY OF HEROES" by the late Harry Carey Jr. It is basically the story of the John Ford Stock Company and the making of the Ford/ John Wayne movies. I highly endorse it as a good read. I was given my copy by my late shooting friend a few years back.

As an extra here, Harry Jr. was married to the daughter of Paul Fix= the sheriff of North Fork.
