Cap & Ball revolver price$$
Cap & Ball revolver price$$
I've been hankering for a cap & ball revolver since my trip to The Number 10 saloon in Deadwood SD few years ago, a 36 cal 1851 model. I remember these being $150-$200 range but now $350+ is this going to be the norm? I can buy one without an FFL (for now) so maybe just go ahead and bite the bullet.

I have one in .36, and all the necessities, but haven't shot it yet.
I do have a few 44's also.
Have picked up a couple off gb, and have a bid on a sheriff's model right now.
Good luck with your search.

Re: Cap & Ball revolver price$$
I bought a 1858 Remington a while back and the fit and finish is outstanding and cylinder lock up is tight. Got the .45 Colt conversion cylinder to go with it. Haven't tried the cap and ball yet but will get to it. Powder I use is the Alliant Black MZ for .45 Colt loads and also Red Dot powder.

Theres a forum called muzzleloading forum. They have quite the used guns page there. You might check there if your not in a hurry. The 45 colt conversion cylinders for those are about 250.00. They sometimes have guns there for sale for some good prices.

Re: Cap & Ball revolver price$$
Oldbrass...I purchased the 1858 Remmie along with the 45 Colt conversion cylinder thru Taylors and Co. You can find them available thru other vendors. If you reload for .45 Colt you can have some great fun with these revolvers. Just keep the loads at no more than Cowboy Action type power level like 800 FPS or less with a less than 250 gr. soft lead bullet or typical Cowboy Action shelf ammo.
For this video I was using some Speer swaged lead 230 gr. bullets that were for .45 ACP which have a nice lube coating that Speer uses. Loaded with either Alliant Black MZ substitute black powder or 5-5.5 gr of Red Dot powder they shoot point of aim thru the Remington revolver.
No leading at all and cleanup with Black MZ is easy.
