Took the 45/70 out for a spin
Took the 45/70 out for a spin
Finally got around to checking the 45/70 out ( scope ), at 50 yds. As usual things didn't go well. First off, my target stand fell apart ( poor design on my part. ) Temporary fix on that. Fired the first shot ( click! ) . Ejected the cartridge, tried another, ( click ). Checked the primers, light strike. BP rising a bit here. Tried another, bang. All the rest the same. Hmmm, maybe the lever wasn't fully closed, slightly out of battery. This time both fired. Have to make sure the lever is fully closed. Lesson learned.
Now, I've got to make a run to Lowes, get some materials to make a better target stand. Just another one of those days.
Scope now set 1" hi @ 50 yds, where I wanted it.

Shaky or not, that's good shooting Grunt. That is a good load you have working there.
Re: Took the 45/70 out for a spin
Thanks, Tom. Surprisingly enough, that was the first load I tried. I'd like to experiment with different loads of the same powder, but gun deer season opens here Nov. 21, so have to try that later. Might improve, might go the other way. The season won't be over until the 1st week in Jan., so It'll be a while.

Good shooting there. I've always wanted a 45/70 but I don't think my shoulder could take it.

Re: Took the 45/70 out for a spin
I does get your attention, if you shoot it several times during one session. It has a good recoil pad factory installed, which helps,
no doubt. I shot mine about 10 shots or so, some time back, left a yellow bruise on my shoulder that perfectly matched the pad.
Faded out after a few days. Not fatal, I'll keep at it.

That's a good group, how do you like the 2-7 loopy?

Fine, so far, clear, love the duplex reticule. No complaints.
I am going to work on that group when I get the chance. Think I can do better, know the rifle can. But deer season staring me in the face, may not get to. Stay tuned, LOL.
