Hurricane Eta & Iota

Post by JEBar » Mon Nov 02, 2020 4:15 pm

can't help but wonder if Hurricane Eta won't end up being another "here we go again" .. :? .. its projected path carries it back out over water to where it will strengthen and can easily move into the Gulf .

as a Cat 4 hurricane, they are calling for Eta to have a devastating impact on Nicaragua .... the big question now is how much will it weaken between now and Saturday when it is supposed to get back over warm water .... where it will go then is pretty much a guess ..

Thought I heard yesterday that Eta has the potential to be the most powerful storm this year. Hope not for crying out loud, enough is enough already!

right now Hurricane Eta is hammering Nicaragua and Honduras with heavy rain and sustained winds of 140 mph. .... Friday morning the storm is supposed to move back over water and strengthen .... the long range forecast is for it hit the western side of the tip of Florida sometime Monday morning

I didn’t think they could do that.

It's over the Caribbean right now and slowly moving towards Cuba. Looks pretty big.

fascinating .... first time I've seen that view ..... Eta's long range projection is to turn north once it gets into the Gulf .... still way to far out to have a good idea of where it will go or how strong it will be

the title on AccuWeather this morning pretty well sums it up : "Eta makes landfall on Cuba with 65 mph winds as death toll skyrockets in Central America" .... they are still calling for it brush the tip of Florida, loop back out into the Gulf, and late next Saturday / early Sunday come ashore in the Florida panhandle where it will cross into South Georgia .... projected strength and path at that time still uncertain ....

Tropical Storm Eta made landfall on Lower Matecumbe Key, Florida, as a strong tropical storm....at landfall, Eta packed sustained winds of 65 mph, just 9 mph shy of a Category 1 hurricane strength .... once the storm rambles back into the Gulf they are still calling for its next landfall to be somewhere near Steinhatchee ;) and for it to head in the general direction of Savannah, GA

it appears the projected course of Eta has changed considerably overnight .... the center of the track takes it further to the Georgia / Alabama state line coming ashore around 1PM on Saturday .... strength still very much open to question

Eta most certainly has a mind of its own .... its projected path had changed radically in the last few hours .... they now are calling for it to regain Hurricane 1 status as while moving over the Gulf .... shortly after noon tomorrow it is now expected to turn northeast cross Florida a bit north of Tampa and into the Atlantic near Jacksonville .... at that point the steering currents are to take it away from the US .... sure hope they are right this time

Just days prior to receiving my telegram from the FAA accepting me for training I had finally gotten my
license with the US Weather Bureau. I loved weather because it was like a brand new puzzle every day, but,
The FAA offered a lot more money. I had to tell the head of the station I was leaving and was sorry. He told
me that the FAA washed most everyone out and he'd be glad to have me back. Really nice guy.

Three years later I visited him and out ranked him. He agreed I'd made the right decision. It wasn't a waste
however, I used that knowledge as an Air Traffic Controller every day.

Hurricanes are fascinating!
And yes, I've experienced a few myself.

I've been watching the new hurricane in the Caribbean. This one looks like a monster.
