Bad day at work

I decided to work today to get the trades and consignment cycles ready for the week end. I did a couple trades and then started on one of two Harley's brought in by folks to sell to buy a SXS four wheeler. The guys bike was a high dollar model with loads of chrome and it took me about two hours to clean it up and get the chrome back to looking good. Then I started on his wife's Fat Boy that was done up with some nice options but needed a good polishing of the chrome. It had a beautiful set of wheels on it. So I was kneeling down on the right side polishing the pipes and other front end chrome. While waiting for the polish to dry I thought I may as well clean the front of the engine and the chrome oil filter and the lower frame. The front wheel was turned left like they usually are parked when on the side stand. So while still kneeling I got hold of the wheel to turn it toward me on the right. The wheel barely moved before the bike fell on me hitting me in the fore head above my left eye and getting my right hand caught on some thing and hit me on the right wrist. I think the air cleaner sticking out got me on top of my left hand. Well there I am with a 650lb. bike on top of me and no one around. The good Lord had to be who helped me but I managed to get that thing up off me and luckily when I got it back up straight I saw the side stand still in position so I slowly let it go until it was on the stand again. Then I am standing there thinking where did that strength come from. I have been cleaning bikes since the late 60's and never had anything like this happen before. I usually just stay down on the floor and just keep pushing the bike back wards on the side stand until I get the wheels done all around. So I start looking at this bike closer and saw what caused this to happen. The suspension had been lowered for the lady to reach the ground and who ever done it did not shorten the kick stand and caused the bike to be upright when the front wheel was straight ahead and then lean a little right when the front wheel is turned right. I think a Abu-Garcia hat a LGS gave me Monday saved my fore head from the getting hit worse. When he gave it to me I thought this thing really has a tough bill for a light weight hat. I still am not sure if the end of the handle bar or the handle bar mounted turn signal got me on my fore head but it felt like the time my 350 Remington Magnum smacked me with the scope. So no more bike cleaning for me. Well at least not until next week.

Wow, Bandit! I'm so glad you didn't get badly hurt! But, we're about the same age so I know that you'll know more about that tomorrow.

I'm glad you came out pretty well un hurt. Funny how the suspension was lowered, but not the kick stand. Abu Garcia has always been good to me too

DUDE, That could have been Ugly. Glad your ok. Is the bike?
Had the same thing happen to me, but I had walked away, was changing a flat tire. Turned bars and shook it, seemed ok , went to get jack and CRASH !! Was my buddies Heritage Soft tail. Thank God for crash bars, I didn't see anything damaged

The bike is fine it couldn't hit the floor with me in it's way. If it suffered any damage the bars could be slightly bent from hitting my head.

Glad you were given the strength to get that heavy puppy off of you, and also great that you're okay -- except for the bruises that will happen.
Take care of yourself and heal well.

And that's a great record of over four decades never before getting such a thumping from a cycle!!

I got up at 5:00 this morning with the lump on my fore head pretty well gone down. I really must have pulled some muscles trying to get that bike up off me and had a hard time getting out of bed. I feel a little better now I have been moving around and doing some light stretching to get things loosened up. I wanted to go to the range today but really may not feel up to it. Probably sit out back on the porch and finish sanding a stock I have been working on and just take it easy.

Take it easy, ibuprofen might be your friend for a day or two.
Good thing you were there to catch the bike. It could have gotten hurt.

I am very sorry to hear of your accident and I am glad that it was not worse. Sorry that you have the bump and the pain and hopefully by tomorrow you will feel better.

I make a point of keeping my cell on me when i get under/near jacked cars so i can call 911.

You really don't think about bikes, or for that matter these HUGE outboard motos that can crush you...............
