Halloween Candy 2020
I just finished packing 75 1-quart bags with between 9.9 and 10.2 ounces of candy. That is the gross weight. I figure each bag has 8 ounces of candy each.
The neighborhood email going around encouraged me to do it although I was already planning on doing a lot this year.
Halloween will be on a blue moon this year and I’m hoping for clear weather.
I used a postal scale for accuracy. Each bin has 36 bags. I had two pieces left which I consumed quickly.

Re: Halloween Candy 2020
great idea .... where we are camped Trick-or-Treating has grown so popular that it is held on both the Saturday night before and after Halloween .... we will be here for the first one and have been trying to figure out how to handle giving out the candy ....

I will have my garage door open and will let the kids pick up a bag laying on a table right at the door. I’ll be ten feet away.

Re: Halloween Candy 2020
Probably covid fear,
We live so far back in the woods that we don't get any trick or treaters so we don't usually have any candy because, then you see, I have to eat it myself,
but one year Carol didn't get any and of course two little kids with their parents knocked on our door. Carol panicked and gave them apples, oranges,
and cookies. So now we always have candy and I get to eat it.

We're also way back in the woods with our long one-tenth mile driveway, so we never get any kids.Wouldn't want them walking down that long dark driveway, anyway. I do miss them, though. Always enjoyed seeing them.
Re: Halloween Candy 2020
I quit buying Halloween candy years ago. No one shows up, & I end up eating it myself, which is not a good idea.

I never get trick or treaters out here. I have gone through 4 bags of candy in the last 3 weeks, only have 4 left so if anyone comes for candy they better hurry.

I'm expecting it to be fairly quiet this year, but I bought 72 full size Hershey bars just in case. I'll wear my cloth mask and just crack the door if and when they come. I usually get more than a hundred kids at my house. The neighborhood has a good group of children that live here, but no more than a couple dozen or so. Parents from other parts of town drive them in and follow them around in their SUVs. That might not happen this time.

We live up a very long steep driveway, and in the past 5 years we haven't had any trick or treaters come up here, so we never buy candy for Halloween. There was this one lady with 4 kids that made the hike. I couldn't beleive my ears when I heard someone knocking on our door.
When I opened the door and saw the little gobblins, and told them I didn't have any candy. They sure we're sad, then I remembered the Reese's butter cups in the freezer. (That's my personal stash). Thankfully I had a bag, and they were all rewarded with a generous ration of them.

Re: Halloween Candy 2020
When I lived in Virginia, and I was single, I used to get a lot of children on Halloween. I had a tape of Henry Mancini's
"Experiment in Terror", and I would set up speakers in my Portico and play it. It was all the old spooky terror movie
music.
Then I dipped a big asbestos glove in red paint so the fingers looked like the were dripping blood.
When the children knocked I would crack the door and extend the glove with candy. Often times
I would open the door and they would be gone with no candy.
Gotta have a little fun with it.
One year I opened the door and found two local 12 year old girls. One in a suit and two in cocktail dresses.
I asked who they were and they replied, "two whores and and pimp.". I wonder if their parents, (who I knew
and they were both pretty straight laced), knew about them.

Re: Halloween Candy 2020
Haven't’ had a trick or treater for 16 years since we moved rural. However when we last lived in a development we would have 200+ kids. Lots of fun handing out candy in reflection but it seemed like a pain in the butt back then. We were early risers so early to bedders so I hated those 9:00 pm door bell ringers.
