Yahoo!! I get to play with tigers.

Post by The Wiz » Tue Aug 11, 2020 4:45 pm

Today I got an email saying I have been accepted as a tour guide or docent, if you prefer, at the Carolina Tiger Rescue center. It is out in the boonies west of Raleigh, about an hr. drive. It is a sanctuary for all types of big cats and small ones too. Been waiting all summer for the word but like everything else the center has been affected by Corvid. I wanted to be an animal care taker (clean enclosures, feed the cats, etc.) but the physical aspects where a little more than I could take on. However, I am pretty sure if I turn on the charm, I will get the chance to feed a steer carcass to a tiger at some point. My wife, Flora, is happy I not more closely involved with the care and feeding. But, how cool is this!! Start in September. Dang, it is going to be along wait. :D

Today I got my orientation, a whole lot of homework, and a lot of paper work. I got a short look see at some tigers and a pair of lions. I am not sure I realized the intensive training that I was going to get and the dedication required for this opportunity. I will be in training as a assistant tour leader for about 6 months before I will be in charge of any tour. This is going to a journey of life time and everybody here is going with me. My first actual tour as a assistant is this coming weekend. I will give updates every now and then. In the mean time Carolina Tiger Rescue does have a very fine website. One thing I have learned already there is a dark side in the Tiger Industry (yes, it is an industry) in America. Stay tuned.
