I imagine they had started filling up the parts bins with barrels and other parts (sights, levers, internals, stocks, etc. at least a year before the X models were announced. Just good planning. You don't announce something until you're ready to start selling the finished product. And there would have been several prototypes undergoing testing long before the announcement.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 4:56 pmUPDATE.. Just got a call back from Jeff in Tech Support. He is baffled at the length of my .44 Carbine barrel and had sent my email to the Rice Lake plant for further investigation and they are supposed to contact me. I had sent same pictures as seen in this post in the email.
Will be interesting to see what they say as this was before the X model came out.
The thing is when you look at a catalog picture of the .BBS Carbine with round barrel the over hang of the barrel over the mag tube end looks to be the same. I would think that in the blueprints all machining would start at the chamber end of barrel read as Zero end and any extra length would be at the muzzle end which should show up as extra barrel length beyond the front sight and mag tube?
Site seems to be OK. Load issue should be resolved now.

Re: Wow this is interesting...barrel lengths !
Well an answer will hopefully come soon. Would be nice to find somebody with a first year .44 Mag Carbine and check the length.
Now another question...why did Henry pick a 17.4 inch barrel for the X model ? Were all the .44 Carbine models 17.4 inch to begin with and just a mix up and then with the X edition the real length published??
To be continued!

Re: Wow this is interesting...barrel lengths !
Don't know for sure, since I only bought my first Henry ( BBSC .41mag)in late 2018. But it is 16.5" measured, same as the listed length for the other BBSC's. I don't know why they went with the longer barrel on the X, but might have been for better balance given the stock, etc., or maybe to "optimize" the barrel for accuracy or velocity. Maybe just because. Somebody in the company has to have all the answers.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 6:53 pmWell an answer will hopefully come soon. Well, maybe we should have a little fun with Henry and i should call in as well.......
Re: Wow this is interesting...barrel lengths !
Since Forty seems to like his supersized barrel, maybe we could start a grassroots effort to get the company to offer them as an option and/or replacement for all the BBSC's. Suppressor ready of course.
ETA: PS to Forty - Barrel overhang on my BBSC is exactly 1.5" measured from mag tube knob.

So is mine! Does your barrel measure 16.5 or 17.5? I'll send it in for a octagonal 16.5!GunnyGene wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 10:00 amSince Forty seems to like his supersized barrel, maybe we could start a grassroots effort to get the company to offer them as an option and/or replacement for all the BBSC's. Amazing! How can that be I have same overhang with an extra inch of barrel? Enter the Twilight Zone!
When was your rifle made? My rifle OAL is 35 1/4 inch.

A longer mag tube on your rifle would account for the same overhang as a shorter barrel.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 4:08 pmAmazing! How can that be I have same overhang with an extra inch of barrel? Enter the Twilight Zone!

2018, 35.5" oal (approx according to my tape).

So I would think an octagon barrel would be a great switch out, however I am not holding my breath. However my curiosity remains as mine measures like fortyshooter.

My .44 Carbine mag tube is 16.0 end to end and rifle OAL is 35.5 The .45 Colt Carbine is 34.5 OAL with 15 7/8 mag tube.GunnyGene wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 4:43 pmA longer mag tube on your rifle would account for the same overhang as a shorter barrel.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 4:08 pmAmazing! My mag tube and barrel length.

Re: Wow this is interesting...barrel lengths !
I have a confession to make. I remeasured my barrel and it's 17.5" (muzzle to bolt face). So it would appear that is the standard length for BBSC's. Which still raises the question of why Henry would fib by claiming barrel length is 16.5". Are they doing the same with their other models? Are they not bound by the ATF procedure below?
https://www.atf.gov/file/58196/download
The ATF procedure for measuring barrel length is to measure from the closed bolt (or breech-face) to the furthermost end of the barrel or permanently attached muzzle device. Permanent methods of attachment include full-fusion gas or electric steel-seam welding, high-temperature (1100°F) silver soldering, or blind pinning with the pin head welded over. Barrels are measured by inserting a dowel rod into the barrel until the rod stops against the bolt or breech-face. The rod is then marked at the furthermost end of the barrel or permanently attached muzzle device, withdrawn from the barrel, and measured.

Re: Wow this is interesting...barrel lengths !
Was watching another Youtube review of the Henry .44 BBS carbine from a year ago and the guy quoted the 16.5 inch barrel.
Sent him a reply to measure it and he replied back that his measured 17.5 also. I'm thinking ALL of the .44 Carbines are actually 17.5 inch...wonder why? Maybe Anthony Imperato knows the secret!

Re: Wow this is interesting...barrel lengths !
The simplest explanation is that Henry doesn't (or hasn't) included the chamber depth in their barrel length until recently with the X models. Just like you don't count chamber depth in a revolver. Odd, but not illegal. Other manufacturers rifles I have include the chamber in overall barrel length.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 10:39 pmWas watching another Youtube review of the Henry .44 BBS carbine from a year ago and the guy quoted the 16.5 inch barrel.

Also interesting is that Henry has purged the website of the BBSC's (and other models)"Additional Specifications" drop down details, although barrel length of 16.5" is still mentioned in the text description.

The ball is rolling now as I am currently discussing this with Anthony Imperato....stay tuned!
Watched and read all the " professional".44 Carbine reviews and nobody ever measured the barrel length. Never assume!!!
