The Strait of Juan de Fuca

Took these this morning from a spot about 15 min from our home. Nikon D7000 with Nikon 16-85mm lens.

Ah, beautiful and serene-looking pictures, Whaler. The water looked really calm this morning.

I remember views of this Strait as my wife and I did a sight-seeing drive to Neah Bay. Being from the Midwest, we had to go to the furthest western point of the U.S. since we were so close! One neat part of that drive is that you eventually run out of road, and can drive no further west, or north, in the continental U.S.! That provided a deeper meaning to the road signs that say, "Dead End."

Also remember crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the ferry to Victoria. The waters were nowhere near calm that day. In fact, I think I had my first ever brief taste of sea sickness! But it was fun, and we enjoyed every minute in the Northwest.

BTW, we had a fun surprise for my wife along Hwy. 112 on that drive to Neah Bay. Came across the town that was named after her -- Joyce! Wonderful memories....thanks. Your pictures are excellent!

It wasn't quite a visit; rather we lived just south of Portland, OR for three years. I worked at one of the private colleges there.
But we did a lot of camping, sight-seeing, all the basic touristy things. As many folk know, there is some absolutely beautiful country in the Pacific Northwest, and I'm glad we got around as much as we did. Why leave?!? My wife particularly missed all the kids and grandkids back in the Midwest, so our time in OR was somewhat shortened. :*) That's okay; those three years gave us many memories of beautiful places visited, and a lot of outdoor fun times. We even did some white-water river rafting with a group of friends one weekend. That doesn't happen often in the wheat fields of KS, or the corn fields of MO or IL, which are the Midwest states we've also lived in. Thanks again for the photos!
