Good range morning

Post by leverjc » Fri Aug 07, 2020 12:43 pm

Made it out to the range early this morning to sight in my 30-30 remlin that I just put peep sights on and to see what affect the light fire lapping job did for my 24" Frontier. I was trying light 130grn and 170grn hot cores to see what I could work up for the steel critters for my next silhouette match. I need to do a little more work for the 30-30 as far as load development but I am getting close.

There was a tight spot in the barrel of my Frontier so I did a minimum fire lapping job on it and relieved the tight spot toward the muzzle. This rifle shot well before but it really shines now. The impact changed slightly so I adjusted the sights once to have it hit where it is supposed to. I first shot SK target which is a highly lubed led round then I shot Aguilla super extra hv. The first three rounds of the Aguilla hit low then the other seven grouped well. I think i just had to shoot the lube out of the bore. This is about as good as I can shoot with peeps at 50yds so I am very satisfied.

That is good shooting. What is your load with the 170's? I'm no help with 130's, sorry.

I have been trying 32grns of 748 with 170 speer HC's I am thinking of dropping it half a grain or so. This rifle has always like 130's and 150's better than the 170's but I find myself short of 150's so I thought I would try again. I would have to go out to the shop to get the load of 748 I am using with the 130's but it is a light load and giving me good accuracy.

I'm loading 32.0-33.0 gr 748 with a mag primer and get pretty good accuracy. Over my chronograph, I avg 2,025-2,050 fps MV.
These are with Hornady fn 170's from my Mod94 Win. 20" barrel.
