Range Report: Daisy Avanti 853

Post by Sir Henry » Mon Jul 27, 2020 3:43 pm

It’s going to be in the 90’s here so I decided the backyard range meant more comfortable shooting. It’s was nice to have all the comforts of home however the targets were hard to see. I ended up cutting a few limbs down.

These peeps are a delight to use. Even with the poor lighting I could see through the sights quite well. The big problem was getting all lined up only to discover it was a shadow and not the bullseye. Looking through both peeps and all you see is the front sight inner circle. Even most of the area between the two outer targets is blacked out. What you see is a lot of black and a tiny hole.

Gene those Daisy 853s are great target guns. They were very popular in the CMP programs and school airgun shooting teams. Hated to see Daisy go under.

I have the same problem with shadows on our range, but our, uh, tree limbs are a bit larger. :) Bill is in the process of building us a heavy duty backstop, so we'll likely setup a more open area to avoid the shadows, even if it means going with a shorter shooting distance.

Evening light and it’s a new ballpark. Targets are 21 yards away.

Wish I could shoot like this standing. The only three shots I fired.

For sure, time of day for the sake of shadows is also critical for us as far as shooting in our range setup. Need to have someone come in and clean out some of these pesky trees.

I got out to the backyard early this morning while sunshine was directly hitting the targets. It sure makes a difference of being able to see things. I made a separate report.
