Glock 21 45 ACP ... and 586...357 magnum , yeahh

Post by BruniX » Mon Jul 27, 2020 3:50 pm

The D day has arrived, I received my authorization to detain handguns! (cat. B in France ...)
happy happy, happy !

it is issued for one or more weapons, and it is necessary to acquire the requested model and not another one .

It's a long time to get, 3 tests over a year, spaced 3 months apart and a big administrative and police investigation !

Suddenly I asked for 2 weapons,
After trying a glock 21 (45 ACP) at the shooting range, I fell in love with it, it's really nice ...
i love the 1911s but they are too expensive here ( X3 glock !)
I'll have it this week, yeaah.

and I am ordering my dream, an s&w 586.
But three months minimum waiting, for the model in 4.5 inches, which come from the USA !

I started to cast my bullet (lyman # 358156 SWC) for the 38 and 3576 month ago , preparing brass and primer, I still had to dose the powder but I was waiting for the authorization to do so and finalize the ammunition (legal reason :D )...

For the 45 ACP, I don't know yet.
Reload, probably, I have read it is necessary on the other hand to be vigilant on the brass to avoid troubleshoots, on the glock.

For molded bullet,
I read, on forums that it is possible but the barrel must be cleaned very carefully before firing fmj bullets, after firing lead.
The special treatment og glock barrel can cause lead deposits who, if they stay, can cause problems afterwards with the fmj (overpressure ...).
I saw the Lyman # 452374, same dimensions and weight as the standard 45 ACP bullet ...
If anyone has experience with it, I take ...

See you soon,
BruniX

It's my understanding the reason Glocks don’t shoot lead (cast) bullets cleanly is due to the rifling. Also the Glock chambers don’t support the cases as fully as other manufacturers which can cause the brass case issues you mentioned. One solution for both of these problems is to buy a replacement barrel for your Glock from KKM or others. Of course this could be an issue for you with France’s gun requirements.

Enjoy both your new handguns, especially that 586. (Yes, I do love revolvers) :D

Very very interesting information, hatchdog !
i think is possible to acquiring kkm barrel here, dealing with a gunsmith.
direct importing is not possible...
Have you friends that try KKM barrels on glock ?
Also, do you know other good barrels manufacturers for glock ?
see you soon,

BruniX,

I had a KKM barrel on a Glock M/23 .40 cal. I decided to change the barrel because I wanted to save the brass for reloading. The less-supported chamber on a factory Glock barrel causes a bulge in the case which can weaken the brass causing it to fail. The KKM barrel has a more fully supported chamber which creates less bulge. I don’t shoot cast lead bullets but the aftermarket barrels have standard rifling instead of the polygonal rifling that the Glock barrels have and are better for avoiding lead build up. However, many shoot cast lead bullets in Glock barrels but they have to be very diligent with barrel cleaning.

Other brands of replacement barrels include Lonewolf and Zev that I know of. There are more out there I’m sure.

Enjoy your new handguns......

The Glock 21 makes a fine night stand weapon.
