Plus there is a Pedersoli dealer here in Alberta too.

AND...a flintlock is considered an antique firearm under Canadian law so no paperwork or license required. A percussion model needs a license to buy. But flints are completely off the radar. Not even classified as a firearm. Weird huh?

Antique firearms are not considered firearms for licensing and registration purposes, so you shouldn’t need any paperwork. You should still declare them at the border crossing. Antique firearms include any firearms manufactured before 1898 that are not originally designed or redesigned to discharge rim-fire or centre-fire ammunition; long guns manufactured in 1898 or later that are reproductions of flintlock, wheel-lock, or matchlock firearms; and firearms that are classified as antique by regulations.

Ive got that exact rifle in 50 caliber in my basement. Its like brand new. Think I have shot it once. I bought it used it has a couple of handling marks on it and a spot in the brown on the barrel . But nothing is that noticeable. Its still a good looking rifle.

Late getting here. If you get the flintlock as Al said only use real Black Powder. I use 3f in the rifle and 4f in the pan. One pound of 4f will last you a life time. You don't use much. If people tell you to expect a noticeable lag in trigger pull to firing don't believe them. I have used only flintlock for over 50 years and they go off with no perceived delay. They are a blast to shoot also. Biggest mistake most make when shooting a flint is not holding the target through the shoot. Have fun.

I once had a Hawken rifle made by Pedersoli. It would match any custom rifle anywhere and it won me a lot of competitions at pre 1840 Mountain Man Rendezvous. They make a great rifle.

Looking at some powder horns and measures. So if I understand right, FFF in the barrel and FFFF for the pan correct? How many grains do you guys shoot in a .50 cal? Lead ball. I see 1.5 x caliber as a general rule of thumb...thoughts?

back in our BP days I only fired FFF in our TC 50 caliber Hawken .... we shot 490 round balls that weighed somewhere around 175 gr .... I sorry, I don't remember the powder charge .... have you checked with the company that makes the rifle you are considering and asking them about a powder charge recommendation .... Lyman would be a good aftermarket source for load info

Just depends RR. I shoot about 80 grains of 2 fg most of the time in the 54. Id probably back that down to 70 using 3f because 3f has more horse power. 50 Cal Id start at 60gr and see if she likes it.

This is a Lyman that I built from a kit. 54 Cal. These babies are fun. I won a lot of nice prizes at the pre 1840 Rendezvous shooting this on the wood's walk.
