I bought a Continental too. Saved my money from a paper route for the bike. Did a bit of bicycle camping with some friends riding that bike.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 11:48 amWhen these bikes came out I was too old for their style. In 1970 I bought a new 10-speed Schwinn Continental. This thread has perked my interest in them as I really didn’t know much about them. The web has lots of cool videos.
I think I’m young enough for one now.

Update on the rear slick... I found with help on a bike forum that it is a 1969 tire from the date code. And to think I was riding around at times on it up until 2 years ago! Uniroyal stopped manufacture of bicycle tires in January 1970. Schwinn was using up the inventory thru 1970.

The tire is showing cracks and have to decide if I am going to put a new repop tire on which I have or leave it as is.
Also that orange stripe around the sidewall is actually molded into the rubber as you can see it inside the cracks. That's the way the
OEM tire makers made them and not just painted on.Tire itself is worth some bucks as long as it doesn't split out.

Very nice bike. I can't remember what my bike from the late 60s was called, but the chain guard looked like a mc exhaust, and it was one of the first ever stingray style bikes to have "shocks.". Okay, they were just springs on the rear banana seat supports and likely didn't do much. But... They did look cool.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Restorations like this bring top dollar from collectors. I would be surprised if your was in great demand!! I had a purple sting ray 'style' bike that came from Pep Boys. Had a 5 speed Shimano shifter. Can't recall the name of the manufacturer now but it wasn't a Huffy.
