A friend of mine saw a bear early this morning from his back porch. He said it stood up on it's hind legs and stood what looked like 8 Ft tall. He lives 1 1/2 miles from me.

Would not surprise me at all.
Between where I am, and the NC coast, the bears are reported to get bigger. Would seem to apply to your location as well.

Hey Mark, not many bears down this way.
Probably even less the farther south you go from here.

Probably not Randy...if you're talking South Carolina, ( where I think you currently are ).
Maybe not many where you live either, however, Ya get in to those Tennessee mountains, it's a different story.

Mark, I know very little about this part of SC.
But yes the mountains between here and home do have a number of them.
None anywhere near my home, we have a few Big cats, but no Bears

Ohh, don't like those big cats much. I've seen only a couple in our Eastern Sierra's. They're big! And damn sneaky.
