Picked up my Big Boy the other day.

Having never owned a Henry rifle before I am impressed! The action cycles better than other lever actions I have owned/used. The trigger is heavy but breaks crisp and clean. I haven't put a scale on the trigger.

The wood is gorgeous. The color case hardening is amazing.

Once I discovered Henry sold a Big Boy in 45 Colt that is CCH, I just had to have one. I look forward to shooting this fine American firearm.

Thanks! Yes, reloading is in the future plans. I'm just getting spooled up for reloading, after some time away from the bench.

I like the look and the fit/finish of this gun so much that I might get one in 44 mag as well!

Congrats on the new CCH I have one in 357 and 45-70. The CCH models are definitely a favorite of mine.

The CCH is well done. So much so that the faux CCH of the revolver has got me considering sending the revolver frame in to a reputable shop to have it done properly. I've done some price checking and it isn't too expensive if I just send the disassembled frame. I've stripped down RBH's before for deep cleaning and found it easy enough. I've just never removed a barrel. Not sure if I need specialty tools to do that.

Very nice combo there with the new Henry and Ruger Vaquero! I have the CCH BB in .357 and also the BBS Carbine in .44 Mag.
Both are very nice shooters! Tyler Gunworks I think is the company that does the CCH for Henry and would be the place to go for a match.
Here is my .357 combo with the Henry and Cimarron "EvilRoy" .357 revolver.
Notice that rear sight on the Henry which really helped with my shooting.

Range Report:
Arrived at the range yesterday, 9:30 am, clear sunny, 59 degrees, no wind.

Two ammo brands; Grizzly, Black Hills Ammunition. Both 250 grain RNFP lead.

First target 50 yards. Second target 100 yards.

No feeding or ejection problems. It took a couple of groups to find the proper rear sight elevation. Hard to comment on the sights as I'm dealing with 51 year old eyes lately.

Loading the ammo was a first for me as I'm used to lever guns with side loading gates. But I quickly adapted, overcoming the uneasy feeling of having fingers/hand in front of the barrel at times while the gun has ammo in it as I manipulated the loading tube plug. Works good, I like it.

Cycling the lever was very smooth and positive feeling. The shells ejected nicely, landing on the shooting bench about 8-10 inches away.

The trigger as measured with an RCBS trigger spring scale with 4 pulls; 7-7 3/4 Lbs. Firing the Henry was easy enough as the trigger although heavy, broke evenly and crisp every time, with no creep. Keeping the shots on target consistent (for me anyways). I didn't keep an exact round count, but it was over 60 rounds. I was feeling the heavy trigger by the time I switched to my revolvers.

The recoil with the ammo I was using was almost non-existent. Real pleasant to shoot. If I thought my 6 year old daughter could pull such a heavy trigger, I'd let her shoot it definitely.

The Big Boy did not like the Grizzly ammo (my revolvers do not either). At 100 yards accuracy suffered poorly. In large part due to the ammo (both brands). The stuff I was shooting just is not meant for that range. As previously mentioned my 51 year old eyes was the other problem.

At 50 yards the Henry really liked the Black Hills ammo. My last 3 shot group was so good I moved on to the 100 yard target.

Overall I'd give the Henry Big Boy CCH in 45 Colt a 9 out of 10. I've shot lever guns since I was 14, so I'm used to the heavier trigger. But I cannot give the Henry a 10 due to the (my opinion) too heavy trigger pull.

To add, I would buy the Big Boy CCH again in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact I am going to get one in 44 Mag in the future.

It is a nice range. It is a private rod and gun club that I just joined this year. It is a bit of a drive, but I had the rifle range to myself for most of the morning. Even though a few others showed up just before noon, I still had the "lane" all to myself for 3 hours.

can't hurt and should increase the strength of your trigger finger ....
