More hiking next week.

Post by Sir Henry » Sat Jul 16, 2016 10:11 pm

Last night I hiked 8.9 miles in 2 hours and 10 minutes. It is almost a forced march. It is about as fast as you can walk. Say three words and you need to run to catch up. This is the fourth hike like this I've been on with the Eastside Evening Hikers. They are younger and still have jobs so they hike starting at 5:30. On Sunday I will do the Katwalk & Gravel Lakes hike which will be 15 miles. On Tuesday I will do Bridle Trails which is an easy 6.8 miles. Thursday I do the easy hikes with the YMCA and on Saturday hike from Snoqualmie Point to Rattlesnake Lake for a total of 22 miles. I haven't done 50 miles in one week since last summer.

Won't be posting pictures as it is totally out of the question to even think about it.

I envy you. If I could, I would hike again, too. We've got some beautiful trails in CT and we used to spend lots of time on them. But I have too many screws and too much metal embedded in my spine now. Pain is a strong de-motivator.

So, I enjoy it when you post photos of the trails you walk and their scenic views and your companions. Thanks.

I really envy you folks that can make these hikes. With my COPD and circulation problems in my legs those days are over for me.

We did 15.3 miles with 3,400 feet of elevation gain in just under 5 hours. This 67 year old man was out front of some 30 and 40 year old kids. I ate 600 calories of pasta the night before, got up at 3 am and ate 900 more calories and then at the trailhead dumped 1.8 quarts of orange juice containing 770 calories down my throat. We averaged 3.5 mph moving and just over 3 mph overall.
