Made my rounds...

Post by ditto1958 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 9:22 pm

I had to go to Milwaukee for work today. An early morning obligation, so I left yesterday afternoon, and stayed overnight. On the way there yesterday, and back today, I pretty much stopped about every 20 or 30 minutes at gun stores. I hit a largish LGS, Midwest Shooters Supply, both on the way down there, and then on the way back today. I looked at a Gander Mountain west of Milwaukee. They had some really nice milsurp rifles, at good prices. Today, I stopped at Cabelas in Richfield. They have a huge selection of used rifles and shotguns at that store. I also drove 20 minutes past home to pick up an ammo order at Cabelas in Green Bay. Lastly, I stopped at Scheel's in Appleton. Not much interesting there today. Their used rack is small, and prices tend to be high.

One thing I notice about Henry rifles is that, while every store has some, the models they offer are very limited. Despite Henry having introduced many new models over the past couple of years, no one seems to stock them.

All in all, despite the fact that I was on a business trip, I had an enjoyable time shopping. Oh, almost forgot- sadly, I didn't buy anything.

I frequently include gun shops into my road trips. I always come home with at least a little ammo. And brought home a Ruger American Rimfire from a Cabela's once.
Even coming home empty handed you can still call the trip a success. Eye candy and exercise in gun shops is good for you.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

It would be cool if Cabela's or some other store rented a local range for a day and had a "demo day". Just a chance for people to shoot a whole bunch of guns and ammo, and companies like HRA could maybe participate with new products. I don't know, maybe it wouldn't work or cost to much or too many by-laws or hoops to jump through, but it would be kinda cool. Or maybe that already happens and i never heard of it.

after that you could also get some deals on demo products! ;)

My problem is I can't just go in "to look", I always wind up buying something.

Did that this morning. I went by a LGS and ended up buying powder and bullets and a box of .44 magnum.

Then I called my son-in-law and told him to bring his Henry because I had ammo. And now, we have no ammo again!

Bob Ward's gun and sporting goods store (Missoula) has a demo day at our range with different gunmakers once or twice a year here.

They have other stores in Montana but I mainly know the one in my town.

We like to make the rounds at some gun stores when we travel too.

My husband got a book up at our favorite gun store, Ronan, MT, close to Flathead Lake about a man and his 45-70 recently.

"Forty Years With 45-70."

Forty Years With .45/70
Front Cover
Paul Matthews
Wolfe Publishing Company, May 1, 1989 - Antiques & Collectibles - 184 pages
0 Reviews
Containing years of the author's personal experience, compiled in the interest of gaining knowledge and utilizing the cartridge's full potential. Expanded version includes six more years; Lever Marlin 1895SS Navy Arms Buffalo Rifle plus the new long range .45-70.

I think that the man lived in PA. I did not read it yet.
