Re: Finally hunting!!
We don't have those up here in the north country, but hunting morels was a big deal when I lived in Nebraska and the Dakotas. Congrats and enjoy.

Mark the location and don't tell anyone where it is. They'll be there again and again. Congratulations.

Tried that some here. Very competitive. Would have been a good spring for our mud chantrels.

Not educated enough to harvest them myself, so I don't.

Morels are the safest mushrooms to pick and the only ones I feels confident enough to eat Very distinctive and hard to mistake. Just make sure they look healthy and not distorted, don't want a false morel. They sell for big money around here.

Re: Finally hunting!!
Oh, yeah, people who harvest morels are as tight-lipped about where they find them as people, up here, are about finding wild blueberries.

My spot is marked, and lips are sealed. It was by chance I found them. Left some behind to make sure they grow more!

After about an hour after consumption, did you see any unicorns? If not, you found the right ones!

Re: Finally hunting!!
My boss told me about finding porcini mushrooms in Yosmite.
He is French coming here in the 60s to avoid the French draft asked why he still had a strong French accent after 40yrs, he said, " Tim my accent has been very lucrative."
But any ways the people in the camp next to him warned him not to eat the mushrooms. But he grew up picking mushrooms so he brazenly ate them and had a good time.
Waking late to an audience around the tent, debating to call the ranger, convinced he had past in the night from mushroom poisoning.
They all enjoyed porcini mushroom omllet for breakfast.
