Tombstone Territory 1st episode.......

Post by fortyshooter » Sun Apr 19, 2020 12:06 pm

We were watching some of the shows last night and heard something not quite fitting of the 1880's.
During a short silence in a scene outside you could hear the distinct sound of a twin engine plane in the distance!
Since the show was filmed in the late 50's could have been a Sky King episode being filmed someplace nearby!!

Could have been! Anybody remember the name of Sky King's airplane? Liked that series too.

Song Bird, I believe was the name. Could be wrong. I loved how each new season they up graded the plane model.

Another...
I think it was in Good/Bad/Ugly. A series of wood power poles in the distance. OK, one could argue those might be telegraph poles, except on a distant hill top there is a big steel power tower.

I remember as a kid, six to eight years old, my folks took me some theme park near Gainesville, FL where we were living at the time. They had been planning the trip for weeks. This would have been in the early sixties, and Sky King was popular as a Saturday Morning kids show... (Broadcast thru 1966)

My folks had been teasing me for weeks that Sky King was going to fly his plane to the park, and I would get to see him. I dreamed of shaking his hand, trying on his hat... Having a talk with one of my heroes. I was six...

The big day arrived, this was a huge promotion, so all the male park employees were wearing cheap cowboy hats. All the females were wearing fringed skirts. I asked the hat wearing guy who took our tickets if HE was Sky King. He rolled his eyes at my parents, not the first time he'd been asked. Then politely said Mr. King was waiting inside. I was SO excited.

We got inside, and learned his appearance was scheduled for 1pm. So, the family set out to see the park. I remember none of it, don't remember lunch. The big time came... Sky King came out on a small stage, spoke for ten minutes, said he'd sign autographs for those who already bought posters... For an hour. The line formed...

I learned about reality vs. dreams at six.

The posters had sold out before we came thru the gates that morning...
That line was three hours long.
