What gets me is how dense a lot of people seem to be about following the social distancing recommendations. Was behind a young guy at Lowes yesterday. They've put up plexiglass shields to protect the cashiers but there's a gap between where the counter begins and the shield starts and this guy is leaning over the counter as far as he can and actually touching the register screen.

Haven't actually been 'in' a store in awhile. Yesterday was an exception, after picking up our grocery order at our primary store, had to go to a 2nd store to shop for things out of stock at the first. Most customers wearing masks, a few not. Employees interacting with customers (check-out, deli, meat, etc) wearing masks and gloves. Employees (or maybe they were contractors) stocking shelves, no PPE at all.

Wife just got back from the local grocery store. Fully restocked like normal, and people shopping. Good; it's time. Nobody wearing masks or any of that stuff.

Just got back from my weekly shopping at Fred Myer, been going around a hour before they close, very few shoppers then. Was very surprised to see the TP and paper towel aisles fully stocked. The only thing I noticed that was in very short supply was cleaning and especially disinfecting supplies.

I have seen people in their car, windows up and wearing a mask and gloves....I refuse to live THAT paranoid.

It is actually the way to do it if you have multiple stops. Your greatest risk is when you remove the mask and then put it back on with the same gloves.

I've mostly been wearing my mask and taking it off by only touching the ear bands. Don't wear gloves, I still have some disinfectant wipes left and wipe my hands down when I get back in my car.

‘The economy is literally in free fall:’ Economist

U.S. retail sales fell at a record pace in March, with many retail categories seeing jaw-dropping declines. And economists are scrambling to find the right words to illustrate the rapid deterioration of the U.S. economy, as the world attempts to deal with the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

“The economy is literally in free fall with consumers unable to get out to the shops and malls in March, and about the only retailers smiling are grocery stores with consumers stockpiling food for the coming economic apocalypse,” MUFG Chief Financial Economist Chris Rupkey said in an email Wednesday. “This report today breaks all modern-day records for the consumer who has dealt the economy a body blow from which it will be difficult to recover.”

JPMorgan economist Michael Feroli writing in a note Wednesday, “all the toilet paper in the world can’t clean up this [retail sales] report.”

Headline retail sales plunged a record 8.7% during March, which was worse than the 8% decline expected by economists. Core retail sales, excluding the volatile auto and gas components, fell 3.1%, better than the 5.2% estimated decline. Retail sales dipped 0.4% and core retail sales sank 0.2% in February.
