Why I CCW in my "safe" neighborhood....

Post by fortyshooter » Thu Apr 09, 2020 11:05 am

We live in a peaceful neighborhood and mostly the small city is but there are serious incidents like this morning.
early this morning a local cop stopped a vehicle in the entrance to the shopping center where we grocery shop which also enters another
neighborhood. This area being 1/2 mile from our neighborhood.

So the guy gets out of his car and take a shot at the police officer. Luckily the shot missed and he took cover behind his squad car.
Other units called in and guy runs off into area behind a bank. Another shot was fired in the distance and seems the guy killed himself
so the news report states.

You never know even in "safe" areas you live in and around. I always carry when out walking dog or most anyplace!

When I walk the neighborhood for exercise, I carry more in case I am accosted by a pit bull, but you never know about the two legged variety even in a quiet area.

Further info reveals two police officers were involved at the beginning and returned fire. Most likely they scored a few hits.

Used to only carry occasionally. Anymore, I carry most of the time if I can conceal without printing.
I personally cannot handle the dis-comfort of IWB carry.

Airweight snubby in the pocket beats being unarmed. ;) During cooler weather, 45 in the shoulder holster. If headed somewhere I really don't like to go, but can't avoid, I'll add the snubby. :)
Better safe, than sorry.

Good point Jim!
Although my XDS single stack 9 is fairly small, might have to look into a snubby.

Personally, I don't see a lot of "safe" neighborhoods anymore. I carry my Walther PPS M2 all day everywhere.
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.

Very true Grunt. I don't think anybody who ever was a victim, figured they were gonna be.
Does not pay to be naive!
Just not safe out there anywhere anymore. Not being paranoid, just smart. Easy enough to be better safe than sorry.

There's a fast growing number of people who apparently have gotten the message in the past 3 months.

Excerpt:

Gun sales up over 200% in some states, most ‘new to gun buying’

And of course the expected criticism and push back by a number of States and organizations.

My PX4 OWB conceals fairly well with a longer baggie t-shirt. Most people aren't paying enough attention to notice you carrying unless it's really obvious.

I used to carry a XDS and thought it concealed great, I just couldn't shoot it worth a darn.

I've been carrying my Ruger LCP for as long as they've been on the market. I know that a .380 is a small round, but I can put someone down if I need to by shooting straight. I used to carry a 10mm but it was so big and bulky that it was difficult to conceal. With the lCP I have a wallet holster that makes it look like a wallet in your back pocket. It's comfortable and no one knows.

I've always said that if you're going to carry, carry all the time. If you don't, you stand a good chance of not having it when you need it the most. I even carry in Church. I never advertise it.

Just out of curiosity, who here resides in a Permitless Carry State (PCS), besides me?

Dont remember the company but I do the commercial. Dont leave home without it. My wife use to think I was paranoid. Now she asked if I have it. I have one within reach most of the time. Those little Ruger LCR's are handy. Carry one in my bike shirt when Im out riding.

Good account here of a home invasion that turned out well for the homeowners, and not well at all for the bad guys.

No place is SAFE anymore. I carry my M&P 9 SHIELD almost always. If I'm gonna dress up a little I carry the Colt 1911, in a OWB Galco. I've got a Tennessee HCP which allows me to carry any Damm way I want to. You can assume everybody carries up here. I don't really like to carry, but this old man can't run very well, so I'll stand my ground. The 9mm ain't very big, but I bet it will sting a tad bit. I carry a spare mag for a total of 16 rounds, and I ain't that bad of a shot to need them all LOL!
