Starting Load
just curious how you select a starting hunting load for a new firearm ..
.. for me its always been a simple task .... for hunting ammo, I use Nosler bullets .... for each of the bullets they offer, Nosler offers a range of powders and charge weights .... I believe that nobody knows their bullets better than they do .... among the different powders/weights denote the powder and weight that they have found to be the most accurate .... since I started loading back in the mid '60's, I load that powder and charge .... to date, I've never found a need to go with anything but what they recommend .... in recent times I have found a need to develop some light recoil ammo .... for them I find I have to experiment to find what works best for us
Re: Starting Load
Ive had great luck with Sierra, Nosler, and Barnes. When I first started I always would go to Sierra. There 22 caliber bullets for 222 and 220 Swift were great shooting bullets. Did some research with what caliber I was loading for chose a powder or two worked up loads with Sierra bullets. Always has good accurate loads with them. When the plastic tip bullets started to come out I tried the Nosler Ballistic tip bullets and in my 243 they are the bullet my 243 really likes. It isnt until the last few years I have tried some Barnes TTSX bullets. Barnes sells TTSX bullets loaded for the 338 Win Mag I have. I Tried some of those when I got my 338 after doing some research. They shot very well and I dont think I could any loads myself that would be more accurate than they are. Experimentation is the fun of reloading.

Re: Starting Load
I started out yrs.ago with Sierra, and now mostly Hornady. Sierra is hard to beat for a hunting bullet tho. JMHO
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.
