A Championship Team

The South Hamilton Phillies of Franklin County Pennsylvania went undefeated this season with a record of 14-0 in the regular season and won the first and final game of the playoffs to finish 16-0 for the season. The championship game was a real nail biter because they normally only play 6 innings but it was tied after the bottom of the sixth and the Phillies had last bats. So, in the bottom of the eighth inning with the score tied at 10-10 and with one out and a man on second base, one of the boys hit a line drive over second base and the winning run scored and they won 11-10. My son is the head coach and is pictured to the right in the team picture. My grandson is the catcher and we have 2 of him, one catching and one at the plate. And, they won in the championship game missing their lead off hitter, who also pitches and another good hitter because they were on vacation. The team that they defeated had only lost one game all season and that was to my son's team. They all are a bunch of really nice boys, very polite and show great sportsmanship. They are 10 and 11 year olds.Image[/Image[/Image

Fantastic, Dutch. You know what they say about fruit not falling far from the tree. It's plain to see the truth of it in this post! Thanks for sharing your family pride with us.

Thanks, I appreciate it. They play the game hard, but with good sportsmanship all around. And I must say, in the years that I have watched these little league games, in this area anyway, at different age groups, all the fans and the kids are good fans. No yelling at the umpires, not by the coaches or fans. And no criticizing of other players or teammates. It is just not something that you see here. You may hear someone mumble their displeasure at a call by an umpire, but I think that you have that most anywhere.
