Just heard that Ryan Newman's injuries are NOT life threatening.

That sure is a relief.

Hope he can have a fast recovery.

Didn't get to see any of the race today what with coming back from a range outing and all but did watch the later videos of the last lap
wreck with Ryan Newman. Man that was an awful hard hit in the drivers window area!
Last report was he is in serious condition and non life threatening. Great news that is and hope he heals up soon.

Whew, horrible wreck! And it looks like he'll make it and be Ok. Really glad if that turns out to be true. I know some don't care too much for NASCAR, but, it's their sport, they live it, some enjoy it[me] and they take the risks as we witnessed today. Just hope Newman recovers and keeps racing.
Just my thought on this event and hope things work for the positive for him.

We all have mandatory insurance for the privilege of driving. Can't, and don't want any contact with other drivers out there for many reasons!! The acceptance of contact, deliberately in NASCAR should be analyzed. I understand drafting and pushing with occasional incidental contact that is accidental, however, for it to be an accepted strategy in racing is not right to me. Seems to me PROFESSIONAL driving would be winning with minimal contact. I realize most of us are not in a race when out on the road, ( although some seem to be ). To me, great driving, even if racing, would mean NO intentional contact! Especially at 200 mph.
Way too dangerous...all seems like demolition derby anymore.
I know I have probably ruffled some feathers here, and for that I'm sorry, but after seeing that horrible wreck tonite, I just had to vent. God bless Ryan Newman and his loved ones!

Ironically Newman has been outspoken about airborne cars on super-speedways like Daytona. He once said something so harsh about Talledaga that he reportedly got fined by Nascar. Myself, I'm a short track fan. Martinsville is my home track and you hear many drivers saying how much they like it there. As well as other short tracks out there. And it doesn't effect the seating. Bristol would hold 160,000 fans.

The super speedway tracks are just plain dangerous for this class of cars. The way they are forced to drive in order to be competitive is just wrong. It is a testament to the safety engineering that Newman is alive. But the fact that the car was airborne because he was being pushed at that speed should be a message to NASCAR that Daytona is too dangerous for this car. But they haven’t fixed it yet and probably won’t. It sells tickets.
I enjoy most of the races but Daytona and Talledega always make me wonder is this the one where a driver or fans will die.

I have been to Bristol when there were in fact a 1600,000 fans packed in there.
But the past several years now, when watching the races there it is no where near full.

Just saw on the news that Ryan is in critical, but stable condition. Nothing life threatening, thankfully. It is a dangerous sport, you an get hurt or killed any day. But, you can say the same for driving to work or Walmart.
They know the risks when they sign on, and they cars get safer every season.
Personally, I don't like the "bump draft", or pushing. If the cars aren't aligned just right, you're going to get turned.
Hope Ryan can make it back if he wants too. He is a good guy.

Actually it has been stated as "Serious" and not "Critical" which is a pretty big difference, as far as I know anyway.

Right, if you notice I mentioned "would" hold.

But just saw where viewer-ship went from the usual 9 Million to 23 Million.

Could have been because of a certain person in attendance.

Nascar may be getting a boost it sure needs. Time will tell.

Daytona also sold out at 101,500. Not bad.

Do Indy cars go this fast?...Yes. Do they occasionally crash?...Yes. But, It is not due to intentional contact.
One driver, in one car should win a race based on professional, precision driving. Not a high speed TRAIN!!

As someone said, they have come a long way on improvements to safety gear in the cars. Too bad it required the Death of Dale Earnhardt to incorporate the Hans devise. Will anything come of this latest, horrific crash ?
Time to look at the RULES!

I'm no fan of Restrictor Plates either, but without them speed increases. Speed is the main part of the problem. What do you all say to do to keep the speeds down without them?
