The Bucket List

We all have one, and they all are in constant flux. We have various lists ON the bucket list.
The to DO list,
The to BUY list.
The to SEE list.
and a Wish I could list.


(Also a wish I hadn't / could fix list. We don't talk about. )

My to DO list has a couple biggies on it.
1. Sell the house.
2. Choose and buy the new house.
3. Put the move behind us.
4. Before that... Get up to the "National Museum of the Marine Corps" before I leave this area and visit it again. They have added a new section and I want to see it and make sure I pick up a few things from the Gift shop.
5. We also want to get down to the Army Base on I-95 and renew Tina's ID before we leave. They were nice to her the last time, it went smooth as silk and they take appointments. Quantico is the nearest Marine Base, and the traffic up that way is awful, they do the walk in thing, and if they were any more rigid or stiff they would all have to stand at their desks. I guess it's because they are always dealing with the OCS folk.

The to buy list can wait, and it hasn't changed much.... mostly those few guns I'd like to come across to buy or trade.

Colt Gold Cup National Match Stainless .45
Garand or M1A National Match
Single Action Ruger or Uberti (357) so I don't have to add tool head and dies for 45 long Colt or 44 mag. I'd put bone grips on it, and then crank up the leather working and make my own holster.
Ruger Number 1 or 700 Heavy Barrel in 223, (Also so I don't have to add dies.) Coyote/Groundhog Medicine for the Mid West.
Thompson 45 (Semi Auto is fine and I don't need the drum) I don't need the Thompson but I've always liked them.
Diamondback .38 4 or 6 inch to go with the Diamondback .22 I already own.

** I don't need any of these, so I can wait until I find someone who wants to trade for something I have, or has them nicely priced. I do have a few nice items in MY collection I can part with.

Old Jeep to play with once we are settled and I have some extra funds... I'll paint it olive drab and put deployment markings on it.

Anyone else have an interesting list?

1. Still be able to saddle my own horse and get on him into my 90's
2. My wife and I be able to sit on the deck and enjoy a nice sunset in good health into our 90's
3. my 1885 High Wall shows up some day
4. Take a road trip and see Deadwood, Grand Canyon, Cheyenne Frontier Days, Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody Wyo, and make our way down to Tombstone
5. Own a Billy Dixon Sharps, an iron frame Henry, a Colt Walker, and after seeing some recent videos, maybe a percussion Hawken
6. A long ride on Badger across the Great Divide when the good Lord finally calls me home

That's about it for me. Don't really need much and the guns are a wish list.

Grunt, I spent time in the Palo Duro back in the sixties. And enjoyed reading about it in the Lonesome Dove series. It is worth exploring. Caught my first rattler down in it. Yum.

Reading is how I first came to know of Palo Duro Canyon. I read a lot of Western novels, some nonfiction. I was reading about a cattle drive with Charles Goodnight & they stumbled upon it by accident. Scout almost ran off the edge. It intrigued me, so I Googled it & there it was for real. Irony was, I had been thru Amarillo a few yrs. before that I wasn't aware of it. Now it's on my bucket list.
Thing is, at age 76, my bucket seems to have a hole in it, lOL.

I was with Boy Scouts when I learned about it. Many moons ago. Look for 'King Balls' cave. A rite of passage for 12-13 year olds. Lol. Had a strange experience there. Lived to tell the tale.

I want to climb Mt. Rainier one more time. Then I want to outlive the IRS tax tables.

- Glacier National Park

- The Black Hills and Keystone (where my grandfather was born) again
- The national parks in Utah

- I would love to live in the mountains (Maybe Jackson WY for a year)
- I’d like to ski in the Rockies at least one more time and the Alps
- I’d like to be able to hunt more
- I’d like to learn to fly fish and not look like a fool trying.

I think I’d like to own a Henry .357 a Benelli M4 someday...some day.

If you are ever up this way, we could teach you fly casting basics in an afternoon. We taught them at the VA and the Vets were grass casting that day. They were able to catch fish on the next outing. The basics... No problem. Picture perfect, comes with practice, and really not necessary to fish. You can improve as you go, take classes, get "Snooty" later.

Fly fishing will often produce fish when they otherwise AREN'T biting.

But, learn to cast, then you might want to learn to tie your own flies. Build your own rods....

Mine is still healing from that five hour surgery I had three months ago.


Slower than I had hoped.

Shoulder is healing on schedule as they tell me. Obviously still a lot of pain, and I’m still not sleeping at night (last night I got 4 hrs).

Range of motion is improving but there is still a long way to go in some areas and I’m keeping up with my PT exercises to make sure I make progress.

I don’t think I’ll be taking a 1911 or my Ruger Bisley out and shooting single handed any time soon, but I’m very tempted to go try some two-handed shooting with something.

Yup, I want to be on my range, but probably not a good idea. I did get into the woodshop and finally finish two cutting boards. Mostly final sanding, waxing, and buffing. Wax on, wax off. Paid for that for nearly a week, but the boards turned out great. In fact, gave one to my physical therapist.

When I had my rotator cuff surgery, a couple yrs. ago,I found out something I wasn't aware of. I'm right handed, right shoulder surgery.
So, wanting too shoot something, I got my BB pistol & tried shooting with my left hand. Heck I could shot as good with it as my right.
If you got a BB pistol laying around, give it a try. May relieve the boredom at least.
