Gunsmith punch set recommendation
Just wanted to reach out to a broader community and see if anyone can recommend a decent gunsmithing punch set. I just bent two punches trying to tap out an extractor pin out of my M&P 9 ... I guess there is a reason why the set only cost me $12.99 to begin with. I should've known better than to buy this MulWark "Made in China" junk, but I needed something quick to replace an extractor and did not do enough research. With that said, I would appreciate any recommendations that you guys (and gals) can provide. I don't mind paying premium for a quality set as I am a strong believer in "buy once, cry once" approach.

Re: Gunsmith punch set recommendation
Grace makes a good punch set although I do not own them. I tend to make my own punches on my lathe out of brass stock:

Re: Gunsmith punch set recommendation
Here's a set I have considered getting. I have several Tekton punches and they are decent quality, probably not as good as Grace but $45 vs. $120 for similar sets.

Re: Gunsmith punch set recommendation
I have a cheapo Harbor Freight punch set and so far (fingers crossed) they have worked fine. Have never had a really tough roll pin or other not come out. I'm sure the more reputable online sites would have one, or maybe a Cabela's or Bass Pro in your area. I don't recall if I've ever seen a punch set for sale at Academy.

Re: Gunsmith punch set recommendation
Those should cover about anything, unless you need a 3mm. I've had both of my Beretta's completely apart and the only pin I couldn't get out with my fractional inch punches was the 3mm one. 1/8" is just a little too big. Single metric punches are not readily available, I was able to sand my 1/8" down just a tiny bit (.008") and it worked.ponchik wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 3:37 pmI actually got two:dave77 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 3:25 am
