PJM, sure hope you like your Traditions Trapper as much as I like mine. I got my .50CAL last summer --- first BP-ML I've ever owned. Really glad I have it.

Just as you're planning to do, I built a loading stand for my pistol. Below is a thread I posted in the Woodworking sub-forum where I showed my DIY project. Quite plain-Jane, mostly made out of cobbled-together wood, but ended up being very functional when I'm at the ML range.

That stand is perfect. Great job. Have to measure my son's in-line CVA v2 and come up with something that will work with both guns. Are you shooting round ball, sabots or conicals, If all three, which is the most accurate?

Thanks. It would be cool if your stand fits okay for both the Trapper and CVA pistol. I'm even more interested to see what you do build. Hope it works out well.

Two parts of the Trapper grip needed most attention in my build. First was the support area at top of grip where it curves into the palm of the hand. As I wrote in my DIY thread, needed to make sure that was supported when sitting on the stand. Originally I had a gap there, and had to mod it. The second was the brass grip cap. It is rounded and very smooth, both of which made it a little challenging to "stop" any pistol movement toward me. I should have made that small cross-wise stop plate for the base of grip a little higher. But it is all manageable so far. This more close up of the grip shows those two features.

As far as my ammo, I shoot only Hornady 50CAL .490, 177gr round balls. That's what I started with, liked the accuracy, and now probably have enough RBs to take me through most of this year's range times. Haven't considered trying anything else - yet. Am interested what you'll decide to use, too.

Hey RR what are the laws in Canada with blackpowder gun purchases. Down here no FFL paperwork and they can be sent to your front door.

Depends on what is classified as restricted or non-restricted I think.

Pretty sure I could buy a Hawken rifle online if it was sold and shipped in Canada. Handgun maybe not.

haha....I hear ya. The only one happening this year will be the high wall, maybe a Walker is in the cards next year. Don't know if I'd go black powder though, maybe a conversion cylinder in it to shoot 45 Colt.

Does it fit well for your son's CVA, too? Knew you were planning to build one to fit both pistols.
