This has absolutely nothing to do with cowboy gear. Rather it comments on the resting does and short life.

I've been reading a book of haiku poetry. They are very short poems, but also very rich in helping the reader to see tranquillity and beauty. Henry David Thoreau expressed much the same in his prose writings, particularly the time he lived "Walden." Your notes below, RR, touch on two poems I read yesterday. Bringing the thoughts together was enjoyable....

The two poems were compiled in the 1967 book titled Silent Flowers by Dorothy Price, Editor.

There are 2 doe's with babies that live in the thick bush behind our home. Right now they are all sleeping in our front yard. The yard is surrounded by 12 foot high lilac bush so they feel very safe there every year. They catch the morning and afternoon shade. Even the little ones are starting to just ignore me when I am walking around the place doing my chores or yard work. Pretty good life for them, water in the pens, salt lick, tons of green stuff to eat this summer.

Have not posted any gear for awhile, here is a real neat little pouch from October Country that I use quite a bit now. Handy as heck for anything you need to carry. I have a leather bag behind the seat of my saddle that I carry some repair items in (strips of leather, a couple of clips, a flint, little coffee thermos, etc). But this belt pouch is great for jerky, cell phone for photos, etc. Really well made. Cartridge belt, 45 Colt ammo on it, pouch on the right, cross draw knife on the left and you are ready for a long day in the saddle!

All that is cool stuff but the only saddle that fits me is an F-150 it has a heater

I have been applying regular neatsfoot oil to this stock cover since new. I think it's starting to look real good. The leather lacing and accents are getting darker, and the it's taking on a old saddle leather look which I really like.

Neatsfoot oil is what I use on all my gear. Try it on some little spot first, it will darken leather. But it keeps my saddle protected from all the weather, and is easy to put on with a rag. A little goes a long way. Definitely makes light tan leather look more...better.

I've got some CB boots I should be using it on as well.

Be careful oiling the shafts on your boots....neatsfoot oil really softens leather and your boot shaft may start to collapse, making shorter cowboy boots...

Thanks for the caution RR! Have about four nice pairs that could use some attention.
BTW,what is the difference between Neets Foot and Mink oil?
Also, my late brother in law, was a horse person. He used Lexol a lot.

I have used Lexol, but it left a white residue that I don't care for. Lots don't like neatsfoot oil, but I have had good luck with it for 40+ years. Mink oil is more waterproof I think. Never used it. Neatsfoot oil can rot stitching if you apply too much, that's why I rub it on.

Looks like Triple K makes a long scabbard for my single shot when it shows up...be fun to pack it horseback once in awhile. High wall or Sharps...whatever it turns out to be.
