.357/180 Loads

Hornady do a 180gr XTP designed for the 357, it shouldnt be hard to find.

Yea those might not be too hard to find - but the .358 SPFN are - which is what I am looking for - and Ojai does have - and has gratuitously offered to send me a few for a test!

BTW, I used standard small pistol primers for that load. Mag aren't needed.

Thanks Tom. I kind of figured that was the case. Ive not ever used Mag Primers with 2400. Did you push it any farther than 11.5 in your gun or just stay with that load after trying it. I see Max is close to 12.6 or .7 depending on the manual. But Ive rarely had a load that was loaded at max be accurate. For me it usually comes a little lower than max.

Al, if I up the charge, it'll be no higher than 12.0gr 2400. 12.3gr is the max load in Lyman's 4th edition of their cast manual.
The 11.5 of 2400 is a very good load, but, I'll likely try a few at 12.0 just to see. I believe you're going to enjoy those 180's.
I'm fast becoming a fan of those coated bullets from Missouri Bullets.

Might be a while before I get to try some as Im not as tough as that Cowboy from Alberta with is frozen tundra shooting range and 50 mph winds. Hes probably out there now with his belly full of pancakes warming up that 45 colt. Ive used those MC coated bullets before and liked them. Let me know how it goes if you push it on up.

Well I did see Rossi R 92 in .357 hanging on the wall at a small "hole in the wall" gun shop I go to sometimes.
Was there to pick up an extra 20 rd. mag for my Hi Point Carbine. Guy said it was used and $499 which I thought was a bit high.
But it had to hang there as I spent my last Christmas money on a must have new computer.

I have a Rossi in 357, mine wears the 24" SS octagon.
Very fun and accurate rifle, $500 may be just a little high.
But I can guarantee I wouldn't sell mine for that.
And I believe they aren't making those any longer.

Morning Al. I loaded 10 @ 12.0gr 2400. Too windy and rainy today. so it looks like tomorrow[hopefully] or 1/2/2020 for our after Christmas shoot. How's your weather over there?

Anything under 85 is cold to me but right now its about 37 and not supposed to be any warmer than that in the near future. Im gonna throw some of these together this weekend maybe. I have some other 357 loads to load also. Gotta get the Dillon fired up.

Got the Dillon set up and those big 180's are fallin into the tray. They cycle good and cant wait to fire some off. That 2400 sure does meter good thru the powder measure to.

I loaded. 100 rounds of the 180's .I also checked to see it these would work in my Ruger revolvers. Im going to try to make it to the range this weekend. As far as the Ruger revolvers go the cylinder throats are smaller and will just resize the bullets when fired. Ruger Single actions have tight cylinder throats. 358 bullets wont pass thru these without being resized to what ever the throat size is. Im currently thinking about sending my cylinders out to open up those throats. Or just shoot the zero bullets
