True cost of a Henry rifle

Last year (2018) I bought a BBSC for about $700, then a scope for it ( another $120) and a butt cuff and sling (about $50 for both). That added up to approx $870. But that was just the beginning.

My wife and I have this agreement. When I buy a new gun, she gets to buy something of equivalent value at a later date. So yesterday, we went to Kay's where she picked out a diamond ring that covers her xmas gift and our 50th anniversary - $1495, but on sale for $888.

So I figure the true cost of my BBSC was $1,758, not counting ammo.

I paid $649 for my BBB and the following day sold a Winchester for $750 I originally paid $349 for so factoring profit on the Winchester my Henry cost $248!

On the true cost topic. I used to run a spreadsheet which included every penny I spent while owning a Henry, e.g. my first and best one was the H006M BBB .357 magnum. Ammo, peep sights, ammo cans (since just starting into firearms), cleaning supplies, storage bag, range bag, Henry Orange rifle case and Henry ballcap (of course)....and the stuff purchased never ended. I don't think I'd like to go back and look at that cost sheet for that rifle, or the same data for all the other firearms I've had. There has got to be quite a few bucks spent over the years.

One cost hard for me to imagine is what my SIL has spent on ammo throughout his lifetime. Started as a youngster and has hunted for decades, combat service in the Marines, then been in LE work as his only profession. He is well into his second million rounds all ammo calibers shot! My little hand calculator might not have enough screen digits to see the total cost!

Interesting thread. Cost could go on and on and on just like the bunny. Thanks.

Yep. Most stuff has some kind of "cost of ownership" - houses, cars, etc. , and/or a "replacement/repair cost" when something quits, breaks, or just disappears into some other dimension. Didn't want to get into all that with this thread tho.

I've seen chain saws mounted on rifles, but I've never seen a mixer on a rifle. Is that even legal?

I'm thinking you got a great deal there. Anyone who uses a mixer like that is probably a great cook so you'll enjoy good food not to mention the attachments you can get to process wild game.
