New to me Blackhawk
I ordered a previously owned Ruger New Model Blackhawk in .45 Colt. It should be here in a few days. No pictures yet but it is blued glossy finish with black walnut grips. The pictures show some signs of wear on the finish and the grips are quite dark as if handled some. It is coming from Cabela's gun library in Louisville KY. I think I got a good price. Cost $429.00 Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to me.
Re: New to me Blackhawk
Congrats on the Blackhawk, sounds like a fun gun.

Congrats on the new to you BH. What barrel length?
I have one and a Vaquero, both with 4 5/8", lots of fun.

Got a cowboy rig for it? Big iron don't look right without it.TMB wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2019 1:26 amI ordered a previously owned Ruger New Model Blackhawk in .45 Colt. It should be here in a few days. Re: New to me Blackhawk
Thanks. It's 7.5" barrel length. I actually was looking for 5.5" barrel but the price was right on this one.
Don't have a cowboy rig yet. I agree it won't look right w/o one.

TMB,
That sounds super nice!! Can't go wrong with a Ruger.
Do you plan on getting a 45acp cylinder for it as well???

Re: New to me Blackhawk
I'd like to have another cylinder for .45acp but it's my understanding that the cylinder has to be fit to the gun.
It has come in. Yeah

TMB,
Yes,the 45 acp cylinder will have to be fitted to the gun. Ruger can do that for you. Should be about $100. total.
That might be a godd "sometime" project.
Let us know how your new piece does on the range.

Re: New to me Blackhawk
I sent an inquiry to Ruger and asked about getting a .45 acp cylinder. They should respond after Christmas.
I will shoot it for the first time Christmas day. Can't wait!

Re: New to me Blackhawk
I will see my brother and his son at the farm where I hunt. They want to make noise and put holes in milk jugs etc. I'm taking the Blackhawk, Henry .45 colt , 7mm rem mag and a 12 ga. We should be able to make plenty of noise. Might even hit something.

TMB,
Sounds like a good time will be had by all. By all means,a range report when possible.

Re: New to me Blackhawk
On the cylinder, not always as stated above I have both a Vaquero and a BH, the BH is a convertible which means it came with both cylinders.
They are a few years apart as far as manufactured, but
I can use the acp cylinder from the BH in the Vaquero.
I was (very careful) and made sure, but it works fine.
But I'm sure it's not the case all the time.
Congrats and enjoy.

Re: New to me Blackhawk
I remember that some years ago (maybe they are still made) that Ruger offered a 357 Blackhawk with an extra 9mm cylinder.

Re: New to me Blackhawk
I've had two, not at the same time the first on was a 6.5" one. It was stolen.
The second was a 4 5/8" I had it a long time, then I let my neighbor talk me out of it.

Re: New to me Blackhawk
Yes, Ruger still makes a 357/9mm convertible. In fact, if you count various distributor exclusive versions, there are several. Have owned both 357/9mm convertibles and the 45 Colt/45ACP convertibles, but prefer the 45. Accuracy with the 9mm in the 357/9mm is below the 357, but accuracy with the 45 ACP in the 45 Colt/45 ACP version is right there with the 45 Colt. Punches bigger holes in the paper, too.
