No, the Henry is my saddle gun. The 1885 will be some long range fun at the range.

Re: Guess what I just ordered...
Range only goes out to 250 yds. But if I get on a 12" target I will be happy. LFN is not the most aerodynamic I suspect....

Since I have the range to myself most times, thought I might hang an old frying pan out at the 250.

I'd enjoy seeing the before and after pictures .... from the looks of many of the pictures you've posted, you've got enough empty space to hang a pan at most any distance you'd care to

Re: Guess what I just ordered...
Ranch Roper, just found your posting here, so I am a day late and a dollar short. To begin with, I always find your posts educational, on target, and I have the greatest respect for you and your lifestyle and shooting ethic.
Also, you obviously have the patience of a saint, I don’t think I could endure waiting as long as you have, but the wait will be more than worth it.
Winchester produced nearly 140,000 Single Shot rifles from 1885 to 1920, and it was found that the falling-block Model 1885 had been built with one of the strongest actions known at that time. The falling block action was so strong that the Winchester Company used it to test fire newly created rifle cartridges. Winchester also produced a large number of Single Shots in .22 caliber for the US Army as a marksmanship training rifle, the "Winder musket."
The Winder musket was the brainchild of Colonel C. B. Winder, who advocated marksmanship training with a rifle of similar size and weight to a service rifle but chambered in .22 rimfire, which was both economical and suitable for indoor ranges. The Winder musket was based on the Winchester Model 1885 single-shot rifle.
Although it was never officially referred to as the Winder musket, the weapon was informally named in honor of Colonel C. B. Winder and has since generally been referred to as the Winder musket.
Winder muskets were used for target and training purposes well into the early twentieth century. Many were purchased by the United States Ordnance. The one pictured below was gifted to me by a man I greatly respected and was an icon in my profession. It’s one of the original Winder Muskets (1885 falling block) in .22 Long Rifle with an Octagon Barrel. Still shoots point of aim, point of impact.
Please post your Uberti when it finally comes in, and how it shoots. Have to say, I also am very partial to anything 45 !
Merry Christmas !

Re: Guess what I just ordered...
Appreciate the kind words, and some interesting info, thanks. I will certainly post a range report within hours of receiving my new rifle when it finally shows up! Been tempted to cancel the order a couple of times and just order a 45-70 Sharps from a Canadian shop and just get it in the mail...BUT...it's just too much bang for my wore out shoulders. The 45 Colt will do what I want it to do and with way less recoil.

Re: Guess what I just ordered...
Update: my dealer emailed me and is still waiting for his shipments to start moving again. The Canadian portion of his license renewal is completed, and he is waiting on Washington to finish their end of it. Thanked me for my patience and will advise when he gets his shipments. He sells lots of Uberti cowboy action shooting guns, so likely a few people waiting on stuff. Anyhow, not much I can do about it until it shows up. I still want it, and I am sure it will be a real fun one to shoot.

Hey All,
RR you know there really is only one solution - buy both - nothing wrong with a high wall AND a 45-70 is there? Couldn't you download the 45-70 for less recoil since you reload? Hopefully you won't be waiting too much longer...

Re: Guess what I just ordered...
Hang in, there, RR. The 1885 may not have the romance of the Sharps, but it is the stronger and more modern action with a shorter lock time, more on the order of your 1860. It will be no problem making the transition and, hey, it is a John Browning design.

Re: Guess what I just ordered...
I have emailed my dealer to see what the current situation will do to any of his shipments that were supposed to start moving a few weeks ago. This is sure a long drawn out affair buying this rifle. And now I have spent all the money on toilet paper....no I actually haven't. I did mention to him that if it continues to be an issue to get, I will look at other options.

Re: Guess what I just ordered...
Ok....message from my dealer...MY rifle is definitely in his shipments, still held up in the USA as the licensing new rules take effect and the clogged pipe of stuff for everybody gets moving. It is coming. I will stop looking at other options, take a pill and relax for now. As my retirement savings take a beating right now I may have to buy it like Johnny Cash....one piece at a time.
