Another smokey morning with visability of less than a mile. Has been like it for the past week and we are 100 miles or more from the nearest major fires. Over 3 million acres on fire and only going to get worse, temp for today is expected to be 110 for most of the state with wind gusts over 60mph.
Crews have been doing a fantastic job 800 buildings and homes lost but they have probably saved ten times that. Sadly 8 lives lost as well with 2 young fathers killed 2 days ago when their truck was hit by a falling tree.
No real reprieve in the forecast for the foreseeable future with no rain expected in the next month.

Sorry to hear of the tough troubles there, 220. I have two family members who have been impacted by the CA fires that were so bad. Both my bro and cousin live near San Francisco. The fires were less than 6 miles from their homes, it was very difficult to breathe both indoors and especially outdoors. My bro's area was under an evacuation warning when the wind shifted and fires moved away from his home and family. My cousin actually moved that very month way up north to Idaho.

So I have no experience with what you folk are facing. I only remember the tense times my family faced not long ago...they were rightly concerned. Sounds like your fire-fighting crews are doing lots of good and hard work serving your communities. God bless and protect them, and all of you. Be careful.

I've been watching it on the newscasts in disbelief. Such a disaster! Do your best to stay safe. I hope you and family and friends make out OK.

We are lucky as no direct threat to us the major fires are a long way north and east of us.
The country they are burning in is inaccessible for the majority, not much crews can do other than wait for it to reach more accessible areas and then try to protect property.

Probably right on the timing for your area Jim. Rain is supposed to move in here this evening and last all day tomorrow.
Dry and 65 for Christmas though.

28 with an icy feel now in central NC on its way to 52 later this afternoon .... 10% chance of rain today but it is supposed to move in overnight and hang around all day tomorrow .... the good news is, no more predictions for subfreezing temps between now and New Year's ....

Supposed to hit 50 today and tomorrow. Been laboring in my workshop all week trying to find the floor and have made good progress but need to take a trip to the range before my vacation runs out just to do something enjoyable.

Yep...never getting sleepy that done...but tomorrow supposed to be nice too so no worries....coffee is good....and it's almost Christmas...
