Last load for 2019......

Post by fortyshooter » Thu Dec 19, 2019 3:30 pm

Finished up a small batch of 38 Special +P today using 125 gr. Xtreme plated bullets I've had for a while.
Had a 5 lb. coffee can full of .38 Special brass that I needed to do something with and this will be the last loading for the year!

Only have 2 revolvers that I shoot .38/357 from being the S&W M66 and the Ruger LCR .357

Always tempted to get a lever rifle to 38 plink with. Waiting for a HR 357/38 side gate maybe???? ;)

I,m with you 40shooter, did the same thing 2 weeks ago to prep for the family coming out over Xmas. My favorite preforming bullet is a158 grain Hornady XTP or Hunters Cast. 38 brass is great and lasts a long, long, time.

I shoot a El Patron, Ruger Blackhawk and S&W 686 in 38/357. I picked up my Henry Big Boy 38/357 in April and its a great balance for a fun shoot day between rifle and pistol. My daughter in law just bought my son a Henry Big Boy in 38/357 for Xmas and he is chewing at the bit to shoot it.

Well, how about that? Seems we have some that think the same here. I loaded up 200 .38+P for our after Christmas desert shoot. These will be thru my Blackhawk and Henry along with some .357. My .38 loads are Silver State rnfp 158's, 5.0gr Unique and mixed brass. OAL is 1.455".

I loaded those with 6.2 Power Pistol which should have them in the 1000 FPS range or so out the 4in. Smith.

About the .357/38 Henry...does it feed .38 Specials as good as the Magnum?

It does as long as I keep the .38 at it's safe working max OAL using 158 rnfp. They seem to work fine.
I've also loaded .38spl type loads in .357 cases and that works to eliminate the "carbon" ring we hear about.

My .38 loads feed as well as the .357, never had a mis-feed or jam with either and everything I have put through the Henry are reloads. I am like Rifletom, I pay close attention the the COL for both cartridges.

As you said, nothing like a good desert shoot in the great wide open !
