.357/180 Loads

Got my hands on some Missouri coated rnfp 180 bullets. Loaded 'em up with 11.5gr 2400. Dang, those hit steel gongs mighty hard! 50 yards, 80 and 100 yards. Very accurate and hard hitting. But, not on the shoulder. Always a good thing. I'll be heading out to the desert right after Christmas, so, I'll get some pictures. It's an impressive load in my Henry.

When I shot those 180's last week, they were the first of those I've tried. Over the chronograph, that load was at a MV of 1100 fps. I was just over the starting load in the Lyman cast bullet loading manual of 11.1gr 2400. All I can say at this point is, it hits with authority. Much harder than my 158 loads. I have plenty of Missouri's 158 rnfp coated, but, I see this 180 load as something that I'm go to keep. Very impressive.

Al, OAL is 1.585". They feed perfectly.

Thanks Tom may need to give some of those bad boys a ride in a single shot. I have some bowlin pins in a swinger that Id like to hammer with those also.

Just ordered 500 of those 180's up to give them a try.

Al, it'll do that in spades. These bullets hit hard. Those bowling pins gonna grow some running legs!

When I got into casting I swapped from 158gr jacketed to a NOE 180 WFN as a hollow point they weigh 170gr, Nothing but good results pushing them at around 1550fps from a rifle. Even from my revolver they seem to hit harder than factory 158gr but milder on the shooter.
Not a massive sample size but for me they have performed even better than 158gr jacketed on deer and hogs.

Something I have always wanted to try are .357 Mag loads with 180 grain .358 JFP bullets intended for the .35 Rem.

Speer even has a load for them but I have always hoped to find someone who had some of these bullets lying around or a half box at a garage sale as it's not a bullet that is typically stocked in LGSs.

I have no reason to doubt it but that would be interesting to see .... we don't have any personal experience with 170/180's but have sent thousands and thousands of Nosler 158 g JHP's hustling down the line .... some in deer and hogs .... to date none have successfully fought one off

I load some 180 cast with 9.5 grs. Blue dot, and very accurate out of my Rossi.
If I do my part you can flat wear out a 4" gong at 100 yds.
Never hunted with them, but would imagine at that distance they would put the smack down on some deer.

I shot the Sierra 180gr FPJ Match and Speer 38 cal, 180gr .357 TMJ (SINGLE LOADED). There is a lack of availability in the Sierra, and the Speer is not practical in a lever rifle.

Hornady do a 180gr XTP designed for the 357, it shouldnt be hard to find.
