Re: All Species Accepted
Reminds of my college days in the biology lab. We used Dermestid beetles to clean skulls for the various bone collections used for study. These flesh-eating bottles are much superior to boiling skulls, which is the other method used for cleaning. The beetles do a better job of cleaning and cause less damage.

I may want a possum skull...
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

How long does it take for the beetles to do their business on say a deer noggin?

I did some googling on these bugs. Seems to me that it's not something folks should do unless they know how to control and care for them. They also aren't cheap. Here's a source that seems legit:North Country Gal wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 4:29 pmReminds of my college days in the biology lab. Re: All Species Accepted
Are these beetles like the maggots that only eat dead flesh? Would hate to wake up one morning and find they had escaped during the night and were munching on me.

Re: All Species Accepted
Yes, flesh eating bottles that feed on carrion in the wild. Science labs that use these either send specimens out to be cleaned or keep a colony onsite. Not the sort of thing you keep at home.

This is why I love this site. A whole new world just open up for me. This is just like a " Bones " episode. That web site was really informative. Can't wait to use that info in a conversation. Say Honey, did you know.....

Sort of, but not as voracious as the ones that inhabit Egyptian tombs.
