Favorite Christmas tunes

Post by RanchRoper » Sun Dec 01, 2019 11:16 pm

Can't decorate the tree without:

Gene Autry's Melody Ranch Christmas (old radio recordings)
John Gary Christmas Album from the 60's
Harry Belafonte Christmas album
Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters
Smoky Mountain Christmas (all instrumental mountain music)

What's some of yours?

A very favorite of mine is the 1999 album: "A Walton's Christmas - Together Again." It was dedicated to Will Geer and Ellen Corby, produced by Jon Whalmsley (Jason). Really enjoyable guitar pickin' and country Christmas songs.

I worked at a clinic for a couple of years back in the 70's, swing shift and our foreman really liked Christmas Tunes or maybe it was more of a power trip but we had to listen to a looped tape of elevator style Christmas Music all night long for all of December. We begged him to turn it off but he just said he liked it. He was the only one with a key to the room with the sound system.

It was quite a few years before I could stand listening to any Christmas music.

I think Christmas music is great. That is if it’s played after about the 10th of Dec. it drives me crazy when stores put out the Xmas stuff before Halloween, and start playing the carols on Nov 15th.

That said, Dominic the Donkey by Lou Monte is one of my favorite ones.

There’s a KC radio station that plays nothing but Christmas music from a week before Thanksgiving until Christmas Day. Some of it is really bad. Having to listen to that station all day would be my idea of hell. Guess I’m just an old Scrooge.

Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole Christmas songs bring back memories from simpler times.

Yes they do....don't like these new arrangements by everyone under the sun with their own twist. Don't even sound like a Christmas song.

Great acoustics wherever they were too. Excellent.

My Sweet Lord was good too, can't beat those 12 string guitars for a nice full sound.
