Powder measure
I found a Frankford Arsenal powder on sale for under $50. It comes complete with two stands. One is a table top mount and the other is an end mount.
Does any one have any experience with their measure?

Re: Powder measure
if you are referring to the one in this link ====> https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1012718949?pid=573642 , it is a basic unit that drops powder based volume .... most companies that make reloading equipment offer a similar one .... we have one made by RCBS and another made by Hornady .... with Franklin Arsenal's reputation, I believe you will find it to be a solid product ....

Re: Powder measure
Do you have a die mounted powder measure?
I much prefer those for straight walled cases.
I have a stand alone that I use for bottle neck rifle calibers. I don't load that many at a time, so a stand alone works fine, also keeps me from having to get a special powder throw die for rifle calibers.
When you are loading a couple hundred pistol rounds, a stand alone is a pain.

Re: Powder measure
Greetings from the Desert TMB.
I use the powder dump when I am loading up a volume of plinking rounds say for a .223 or pistol. I do this because volume dump is not an accurate measurement and is inconsistent, sometimes within a grain up or down depending on the type of powder you are using. No big thing for plinking or having fun.
However, when I load for precision rounds, such as 7mm, 308, 45-70 or any long gun where I want accurate loads each and every time, I measure each round individually on a scale.
I am partial to Redding equipment and my powder drops are Redding, but as JEBar has said, Frankfort has a strong reputation and makes good equipment, and it sounds like the price is right.

Re: Powder measure
A few years ago a Redding powder measure came to me free gratis and I wish I had discovered it earlier! I had been using my one and only RCBS measure but the Redding is superior with its micrometer adjustment with graduated markings for quick reference.I am partial to Redding equipment and my powder drops are Redding,
I now have both measures on a home made swivel stand for quick access to both.
I keep the RCBS measure set at 12 grains of Unique for .30-30 loading and use the Redding For everything else as it is much quicker to adjust and seems to meter smaller charges of the 'flake' powders more accurately.
I still use 'old school' loading blocks and because the arms on my swivel are about 8" long I can charge a block of 50 rounds pretty quickly.
When done a quick check under a light to ensure all are level and no double charges and I am on to seating bullets!

Re: Powder measure
Wow, I've never had much more than .3 grain variation without an issue with the measure. If I have more than .1, I look into what is causing it.runnin n gunnin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2019 11:21 amGreetings from the Desert TMB.

I always use a powder cop die, and can fairly easily distinguish a drop that is more than a couple tenths off.
Again, I normally weigh every round for bottleneck rifle loads.

Re: Powder measure
The only rifle rounds I drop powder for are my reduced .30-30 loads.
My RCBS measure meters 12 grains of Unique pretty darn close and the loads are always very accurate - enough for pine cone killin' that is!

Just be careful around those pine cones. Nothing worse than being attacked by a wounded pine cone that you though was well dead.

Re: Powder measure
I thought that adjusting this type of measure was done by using a scale to weigh the charge until it is what you want.
I have a Hornady L-N-L Auto Charge powder despenser I was looking for something more like what comes in a kit to learn with.
I'm also looking for a beam scale.i like the RCBS 500 and the Lyman 1000.
