Well a gift certificate and a sale on a Henry that filled the bill and my second Henry purchase was on the way.The idea was to have a “truck gun” type of rifle that I could even tote around for yotes and stuff. Short range, no scope. Simple. Well when it arrived there were two issues. One - it was just too darn pretty to bounce around in a truck, and two, old eyes. Soooo - into the safe and snagged a practically new Nikon 2X7 shotgun scope. Perfect for this application. Decent glass, low power setting for wooded areas, with an upper end that is good enough for white tails. Hammer extension, pic rail, medium Weaver steel rings. Mount the scope and go to the range. Two quick shots at 50 yards to be sure it’s on paper then head to 100 yards to shoot a group of three. Rolled up coveralls for a rest, take my time to make good shots and let the barrel cool between shots.
Walked down to the target keeping my eyes down so I’d be surprised. With the rest I was using and the heavy (but clean) trigger I was hoping for a two inch group but expecting three. When I looked at the group I was really surprised - three shots that could be completely covered by a dime. Pics are in the range report section. I’ve been grinning ever since. Monday it went on it’s first hunt. At about 250 it planted a button in its tracks.
Now - a bit about the forum. I’d mentioned a heavy trigger. I’d also read plenty about the trigger and what can be done. Within a couple of days of being on the forum a member had already sent a Grainger 38# spring. Wouldn’t sell it - didn’t even let me pay shipping. Much better than buying a bag of ten, and with shipping spending $30. Awesome. Where else does that happen? Totally friendly, helpful place. But it’s also a scary place. “Enablement” abounds. I’ve apologized in advance to my checking account.
