2019 Nebraska Deer
2019 Nebraska Deer
My son, bless him, has set us up on private land next to the Loup River. His term, 'easy pickings'. I got a doe permit, with a bonus doe.
Hoping to come away with a couple. One for each of us to put in the freezer.
I will be shooting my BBSC 357 with a Sig Romeo red dot. And, as always, a Skinner peep underneath for backup. He will carry a Remington 700 chambered in 243. He gets the long shot, I get the close in.
We make a good team. Tho I expect to do most of the butchering.
Wish us luck. And all of you be safe out there.
Will post results. Hoping for a group pic, my boy, me, and two deer.

Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
great to hear and I'm looking forward to your post hunt reports .... congrats on building memories with your son that y'all will treasure from now on
Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
Update. My son insists on a 'good ' scope. Probably a 3x9. I go along to get along. He hated my 1.5-4x32. Lol
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.
Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
Did you have that scope on the 243 CoFisher? I bought one of those Sig Romeo's to try out I like it would buy another one. Good luck on the hunt hope you get a couple.

Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
Good luck to you and your son. The report ought to be good. Be safe guys. And what was wrong with the 1.5-4x32?
Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
Lol. Nothing wrong with the smaller scope. He just is sure I will do better with the big one. Heck, he could be right.
As for the Romeo, I think it would cover any shot I'd take. We will see.

Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
I like red dots and would not be afraid at all to put one on a hunting rifle.

Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
I have seasons enough to be trying the red dot later. The pasture we are setting up in is tame enough to drive. I plan to be back for the late season. It is very helpful to be able to drive to a downed deer. Getting too old for dragging.

Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
I've hunted with a red dot sight on our Redhawk 44 Mag for a long, long time .... I've never used one on a rifle and wouldn't be comfortable doing so at ranges over 50 or so yards .... as to getting tooooo old for dragging deer out of the woods, I reached that point many years back

Best of luck, Jim! Sounds like a great set-up and that you have the bases covered. Can't wait to hear about it and see some pics.

Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
Yeah, Jim. My last deer was taken at 49 yds with my Henry and Skinner peep. I'm sure the red dot would do fine, but am going along with my son. If he thinks he can make my time better, I'm easy. I'll use my red dot on my time. Dang kids...JEBar wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 6:07 pmI've hunted with a red dot sight on our Redhawk 44 Mag for a long, long time .... Re: 2019 Nebraska Deer
Roger that on loooong drags with the deer. Why I called it quits in 2012. Upland birds are WAY lighter and easier to carry.
Good luck tho. Now, go get 'em!

" but I like the scope I'm using..." then my son in exasperation buys the scope. I use the scope when he is around so as not to hurt his feelings, but go back to using my favorite when he's not.
