Why is Henry not offering the side gate in the most popular rifles like .357 .44 Mag and .45 Colt?
I would have started in those calibers first!
What? no Love for the 41?
I'd be curious to know what their top selling center fire rifle is.

I've fired hundreds of HSM Cowboy Action 405 gr'ers through our highly modified CCH 45-70 and they are indeed fun to fire .... I hope to be able to spend some time tomorrow developing a similar load around 300 gr Nosler Ballistic Silvertips .... HSM list the muzzle velocity at 1300 fps .... my hope it to come up with a load that pushes our Noslers at 1200 +/- .... with the lighter bullet, the recoil shouldn't be bad at all
If you remember, could you let me know how that works out? I’d be very interested to hear, as I thought I read somewhere (ifits on the “webz” it must be true!) that the heavier bullet weight in the 405s was partly responsible for the diminished recoil? The least pleasant rounds I’ve put through mine are the 325 grain LeverEvolution but I’ve no idea what the powder charge is in them.

Have no need or desire for the 45-70, and I have a pair of 410's that see little use.
Now the 35 Rem. in a case colored and an octagon barrel, would go nicely with the pair of marlins and that ole Savage.
Or the 38-55 the same way, I have a bullet mold but nothing else in this caliber.

But, need  guess I really don't need any more. :o
Now wants, on the other hand. ;)

They have the 35 and 38-55 side gate in stock at the LGS. They are Brass though of course. Price on each was $819.00. He is always willing to come down for cash. Just an FYI Randy.

I've always heard the reverse ... the heavier the bullet the heavier the recoil ....guess time will tell ... one of my goals for the last 4 days was to work on a light recoil 45-70 load .... didn't get it done .... hope to be able to start the process this coming Monday evening

Typically true - but not always.
Bore diameter vs. bullet weight, velocities & cartridge pressure can dramatically affect how much recoil a particular bullet weight will produce.
It gets complicated.

$819 seems like a good price. If one can be found here, the price is about $870.

People come from far and wide to go to this store because of his vast inventory and the lowest prices. Last week when I was there, I spoke with a man who came up from Greenville SC, ( about a 3 hour drive ), looking for a 500 MAG. That is how we began talking. We exchanged phone numbers after I told him about mine. Mine has the 8-3/8 barrel though and he was looking for a very short one. can't imagine it myself! He was a big boy though.

You need a 38-55 Mark there just a ton of fun to shoot. Vaquero needs one to. Hes halfway there with the mould and I know he loves to reload

Definitely a caliber that can pull you into reloading. Factory, if you can find them at a LGS, about $50 for a box of 20.

Yes, that sounds fun Al, but I don't, and probably never will, reload, if what Mags says is true ( which I do not doubt ), then I don't see that happening.
Would love to try one though! :D

Mags lives in the high rent district. I haven't ever paid that much for any ammo Ive bought for a gun that I don't reload for. Even my Barnes 338 Win Mag ammo isn't that much. I will admit though 38-55 ammo is a lot more than 30 -30

Al, the brass receivers do nothing for me, yes I do have a 44 BBB, but I bought it used, and the brass has a nice patina.
If they do it in a case colored and an octagon, only then would I consider it.
But with all I already have I really don't have a need for anything else.
But with all that said.......
I have a bid in on a Rossi M92 in 44-40, something I really have no need for, but at the moment I have it at a bargain.
So I could even turn around and make a quick buck if I choose to.
Or I may buy dies and reload for it. So I guess a 38-55 could happen. :o
